I came. I saw. I threw my lunch box around. I spilt all my water. I dug up my blankets. I pooped on the floor. I moved my enclosure to a better location. I demanded cuddles. I got cuddles. Everyone loves me. And then I went home. It was a great day!! π ~ Theodore
πΎ Hay! We have meadow hay πΎ
Meadow hay is made up of one or more non-cereal grasses. It is softer than oaten hay and usually contains less sugar. Meadow hay can be fed to rabbits and guinea pigs alongside oaten hay to provide variety in the diet.
Remember, good quality hay smells pleasant and is free from weeds, mould, and dust.

Help! My bunny dug up grandma's roses. How do I stop him from being naughty?!! π§πΉ
Digging is a natural, healthy behaviour for rabbits. Your rabbit is not being naughty by digging a hole in the garden. They are digging a hole because digging is fun! We can't expect rabbits to stop doing what is natural to them. Neither can we expect our rabbit to understand that digging up grandma's roses is strongly frowned upon.
Does that mean your rabbit will dig up your whole garden, and there is nothing you can do about it? Well, no. There are things we can do that allow rabbits to behave like rabbits, while also preserving grandma's roses π
Enrichment is an important part of a rabbit's life. It helps prevent boredom, promotes physical and mental exercise, increases quality of life, and allows your rabbit to display natural behaviours like digging. Remember, digging is not a naughty behaviour, and trying to discipline a rabbit for digging will only result in a confused, anxious rabbit.
So, what do we do?
We purposefully redirect the rabbit's behaviour to an appropriate space where digging is permitted and encouraged. We make a digging box!!
Take a large shallow container--a plastic underbed storage box works well--and fill it with clean, shredded paper. Hide a few of your rabbit's favourite treats and toys amongst the shredded paper. Place the digging box in your rabbit's housing area. Now watch your rabbit explore and play!!
Note: Some rabbits may toilet in the digging box which is normal behaviour. Remember to remove the soiled paper each day.
Newspaper is also great fun for rabbits to play with. You can include newspaper in your rabbit's digging box, too.
Do not allow your rabbit to eat the paper. If your rabbit decides to eat the paper, move them out of the digging box and put them where their hay is.
Happy digging!!!
