Warm welcome to the second set of wonderful exhibiting artists 💌❣️💫
ILONA MCGUIRE -
“Ilona McGuire is a proud Noongar (Whadjuk, Ballardong, Yuat) and Kungarakan Woman and practicing artist here on Whadjuk Noongar boodja. Through her recent experimental works, Ilona explores challenging issues around the history and relationship between Black and White Australia. “Through expressive methods of mark-making, I’ve found the opportunity to purge deep emotions built up through a life of being racially vilified, educated on the truth of Australia and seizing opportunities to inform. I hope viewers can understand and feel the rage through these works as it is not unique to myself but also those who are aware of the truth of this twilight zone we call ‘Australia’.”

SAGEY CERAMICS - .ceramics

“Hi! My name is Sage and I am a ceramicist/ illustrator based in Boorloo. I am twenty, self taught and excited to share my work with you. My work is inspired by the cottagecore/kidcore aesthetics and all things cute or witchy. I create a lot of my work with the intention of encouraging others to look after themselves and show themselves compassion. Promoting self love and mental wellness through my art is one of my main motivators. With the use of affirmations and supportive intentions, I hope my customers can feel supported in their journey to self acceptance.”

Introducing out extraordinary first set of artists exhibiting this friday!
we are so thrilled to showcase their brilliant work and cannot wait for you all to experience them in the flesh soon! 💫

JADA DE LUCA -
Jada De Luca is a surrealist collage artist, poet and aspiring novelist that creates art for the artist. She embodies the belief that poetry is not only in written form but can be expressed when combining mediums, forged by hand, or delivered verbally. The word “poem” derives from the Greek word poíēma meaning “a creation”. Jada endeavors to explore the imagination and aid those who wish to do the same, telling stories by the fireside and conquering mountains with her creativity."

VICTORIA CIVILETTI -
"Hey my name is Victoria, I am 17 and am an art student at Aranmore Catholic College. I comment on social issues and identities, each artwork created from different perspectives, showing just how tiny life experiences, gender, age, race and more can influence the way art is seen or developed."

NAT KAEW - .aes
“HI, my name is Nat :) I love creating, I see it as a way of self-expression that has the ability to take me to a different world. I am able to connect with myself on a deeper level and express myself in ways that are difficult to articulate through words. I like to use gouache paint for my pieces as it allows me to create vibrant worlds that I can escape to and I am extremely thrilled to be able to share these creations with you."

Welcome to the lineup 💫

After a year spent locked down in the studio, pre-eminent Australian new wave rap star Toyotomi is gearing up to burn down 2021 with a new full-length project, after just dropping the masterful 22 song album 'Pest Control' at the tail-end of 2020.

Once again linking up with in-demand Perth-based producer JCAL (Tuka, MALi JO$E, Your Girl PHO), Toyotomi’s woozy, atmospheric take on cloud rap reaches for the skies on each song.

A 22-track beast of an LP, ‘Pest Control’ posits the young Western Australian as truly deserving of a global audience, wrenching at the throne currently occupied by artists outside of his isolated hometown.

“Toyotomi keeps it 100 the whole way through, there's no half measures from this dude.” – Tommy Faith, triple j

While barely of drinking age, the plaudits for Toyotomi’s floating in a warm, psychedelic bath soundscapes and silky smooth flow have come thick and fast over the fast few years.

Earmarked as one of five Australian hip hop acts to watch by VICE in 2017, he’s since been a triple j Unearthed Feature Artist, played in front of huge crowds at ORIGIN Fields and Falls Festival in Perth, and hosted a heap of sold out shows and parties around Perth.

With the world finally beginning to emerge from a dark 2020, Toyotomi’s shadow looms large in 2021 and beyond.

Make sure to score tickets to see Toyotomi in the flesh! ❣️

17/06/2021

next up on our lineup is ! 💫❣️
Sunny Flowers, is a rapper, singer-songwriter and producer from Boorloo (Perth), Australia.

Born on the eastern limits of the Perth Hills, Sunny grew up in a small town and spent most of her childhood learning and playing musical instruments.

Starting at the age of 6, Sunny began learning the drums, violin and then guitar before teaching herself digital music production in her spare time during her teens. She released her debut EP ‘Palominos’ in 2020 just before coming out as transgender, and has since shared the stage with artists such as SUPEREGO and Yomi Ship.

Inspired by the likes of JPEGMAFIA and BROCKHAMPTON, Sunny Flowers’ sound ranges from dark and introspective to loud and aggressive at a moment’s notice. Her unique style of alternative hip-hop brings an entirely new sound to the Australian scene.

We’d like to make an announcement regarding the misuse of Boorloo in our collective’s name and branding. After a productive discussion with , we have realised that using Boorloo for our entity’s name has been misleading. When initially deciding the name, our mentor, a Noongar person, had approved of our name as our intentions were to bring awareness and normalise the Noongar word for Perth. Boorloo, is the place that we gather on when we create and share art, and we plan to use it only as that; a place, and not an identification.

AURA has the best intentions in representing First Nations people and art, however, we also want to do our best to include the LGBTQI+, youth, women-identifying, BIPOC, disabled and general emerging artistic community within Boorloo when curating our events. However, we do not claim to be First Nations people and will not speak over the community’s voices by keeping “AURA BOORLOO”. We will continue to do proper research and reach out to Noongar elders and the community when using the language and culture.

We will remove “Boorloo” from our logos and official announcements, and edit our Instagram account name from “auraboorloo” to “aurainboorloo”. This is purely to remind, pay respect and emphasise that the land on which we gather and share AURA on, is of Noongar people, language, history and culture.

Chloe & Izy, AURA Art Collective.

28/05/2021

First of all, we would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land that we gather on tonight, the Whadjuk Noongar people. We are so grateful to be able to share and create on this beautiful land.

27/05/2021

If you have issues at all at the event please do contact or find our helpers. This is your space to feel safe and free. ❣️
