For the 2021 Perth Festival, Performing Lines WA partnered with Ian Wilkes, Poppy van Oorde-Grainger and Same Drum to co-produce Galup – an interactive walking performance on-country that brings to life largely unknown histories of this area.

Everyday hundreds of people visit Lake Monger without knowing the events that happened there or understanding its significant place in history. Galup sought to change that, by uncovering the truth with a profound participatory experience.

We are pleased to share and support this significant opportunity to restore Lake Monger’s Whadjuk Noongar name…

We are excited to share fresh footage from Emma Fishwick’s new work in development, From Here, Together.

From Here, Together explores ideas of space and progress, past and present, and the palpable tensions between. This work will be the sequel to Emma’s 2021 Perth Festival show, Slow Burn, Together. Working with an ensemble of performers and core collaborators, Emma’s works fluctuate between contemporary dance & moving tableau, achieved through spacious extended scenes that stretch images into events. Where Slow Burn, Together attempted to arrest time while poking holes in the logics and aesthetics of the past, From Here, Together criss-crosses traces of what has come before with a mindful meditation on where do we go from here (together)?

Emma and the team recently completed the second phase of the project’s development, seeking to go into production and premiere presentation in 2025-26.

Choreographer: Emma Fishwick

Performers:

This project has been supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and The Naval Store. In 2022, the first stage development of From Here, Together was part of the Co3 Contemporary Dance IN.RESIDENCE program.

Performing Lines will join 38 other organisations as part of the national framework, extending our congratulations to La Boite Theatre that enter the NPAPF alongside us.

Our teams and board members in NSW, WA, TAS and VIC look forward to upholding our strong, 40-year track record of supporting independent artists, producing quality works and designing and delivering sector-based capacity building initiatives that contribute to the very fabric of the Australian performing arts sector, ensuring its current and future sustainability and vibrancy.

Performing Lines Chairperson, Robi Stanton said that the company is a unique addition to the Framework, as one of the only organisations working with independent performing artists nationally. “We look forward to continuing to champion the independent sector as a powerful force of contemporary cultural expression,” she said.

Inclusion in the Framework, will provide the company with stability and security over the next 8 years, allowing for long-term planning and commitments to artists, presenters and industry, as well as an important seat at the table to champion the independent sector.
