Connecting assistive technology (AT) users to peer-led information and each other. Peer led disability group

05/09/2024

What a busy time it is at ATChat HQ.
We're excited to let you know, we have progressed onto our next phase of work to enhance the new ATChat website after the completion of our user experience audit a little while ago, conducted by our partner agency, Humaan. Thanks to all those who took part!

This next phase looks at defining features and planning the design of the ATChat platform to improve value, activity and especially usability. To help support this, we are seeking volunteers from our community to join our ATChat User Working Group, which will be an opportunity to contribute your expertise and insights over two sessions, (one next Tuesday - the next is in October) run by our wonderful partners at Humaan.

If this sounds exciting (which we think it is), please contact us [email protected] with your name and email address expressing your interest for further information to take part. We'd love to have you join us!

FYI - The first 'Feature Validation' session is next Tuesday 10th September between 9-10am AWST.

🗣It's important you have your say❗️

To support the proposed amendments to the NDIS Act 2013, the Department of Social Services is conducting a public consultation on draft definitions of NDIS Supports. These definitions clarify what NDIS funding can and cannot be used for.

If the Bill is passed by Parliament, these definitions will take effect when the law is enacted.

Currently, no changes are being made.

Your feedback is crucial in ensuring that people have access to the supports they need. By sharing your thoughts, you can help shape the proposed changes to better meet the needs of the community.

👉The public consultation is open until 18 August.
👉 Complete the survey here: https://engage.dss.gov.au/consultation-on-draft-lists-of-ndis-supports/consultation-on-draft-lists-of-ndis-supports-survey/

The World's Best Fold Flat Citrus Juicer - Fluicer by Dreamfarm - Award Winning 26/07/2024

We all know the value of juicing to help us treat a cold or the flu. Check out the 'Fluicer', a product from Dreamfarm that could make it easier for you to squeeze your lemons, limes or oranges this winter.

Unlike a traditional juicer that requires you to rotate your wrist on the hand holding the fruit and to hold the juicer with the other hand. The fluicer works by inserting the fruit into a hinged utensil, then using both arms, you squeeze the two handles together. This means you are using the larger muscle groups of your arms (instead of hands), requiring less effort.

Let us know what you think!

The World's Best Fold Flat Citrus Juicer - Fluicer by Dreamfarm - Award Winning The original Dreamfarm Fluicer is an easy squeeze citrus juicer that folds completely flat for space-saving storage. 3 sizes available.

World Day for Assistive Technology - Campaign video 04/06/2024

Today marks the first “Unlock the Everyday” campaign highlighting that, 2.5 billion people need at least one form of assistive product - such as wheelchairs, eyeglasses, hearing aids, prosthetics, and digital devices. However, only 10% of people in low-income countries can access the AT they need.

To mark the day, we’re shining a light on this inequity and the urgent need for people to access affordable assistive technology. AT enables people to live independent lives – to study, work, and enjoy the everyday moments that many of us take for granted.
