CONGRATS TO OUR U9 SUPERSTARS!!

2024 is now complete for these 9U superstars and I would like to thank IHWA for allowing these players show their skills this season with a record number of 45 players.

Hawks and West Coast Hockey clubs have provided some amazing coaching all season with great progression shown by these players.
We started the season learning the basics of passing, line changes and shooting as most of these players had never played before.

Throughout the season nearly everyone had a turn being a Goalie, which has resulted in some players wanting to further pursue this position, and towards the end of the season we incorporated a modified offside. Puck touches by all players was the biggest accomplishment as the more experienced players learnt the value of being a good teammate and sharing the puck around.

Good Luck to the players leaving us for 11U next year and bring on 2025 for the returning and new players.

Expressions of Interest are being called for assistant coaches for upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships in 2025. The assistant coach is critical to the success of the team structure and plays a vital supporting role for head coaches. The position/s serve as an opportunity to join a national team at the highest level of Australian ice hockey and provides a pathway for future roles.

The teams assistant coaches roles are available:
U18 Women – Division IB – 7-13 January 2025, Katowice, Poland
U20 Men - Division IIB - 19-25 January 2025, Belgrade, Serbia
U18 Men – Division IIB – 17-23 March 2025, Sofia, Bulgaria
National Men - Division IIA - 27 April - 3 May 2025, Melbourne, Australia

Ice Hockey Australia Announces IHA/IIHF Level III Coaching Accreditation Course for 2024

Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) is pleased to announce the commencement of the IHA/IIHF Level III Coaching Accreditation Course in September 2024. The course will feature both a face-to-face classroom component and virtual online sessions.

The classroom component will be held in Melbourne at the Torrens University Melbourne City campus from September 30 to October 4, 2024. The course will be facilitated by Bob Mancini, Assistant Director of Hockey Development at USA Hockey, with support from local and international coaches. There will be on-ice education and training, held at O’Brien Icehouse, Docklands, to compliment the face-to-face classroom education.

The virtual component of the course will complement the classroom sessions and will be spread over several months, allowing participants ample time to complete the program.

This course is open to the following:
IHA Coaches who have completed or are currently undertaking the Level II Coaching Course.
Level III coaches seeking to upskill or refresh their knowledge.
Coaches with other coaching accreditations and appropriate coaching experience for a Level III or High-Performance Coaching Course.

Please note that accommodation and travel expenses will be the responsibility of the individual participants. The final cost of the course will be announced shortly.

The dates are:
Monday 6th, 13th and 20th May
Thursday 9th, 16th, 23rd May
All days will be starting at 6pm and running till 9pm
The link to join will be emailed out.

The course will run for three (3) weeks. Each week will be covering something different; hosted by the RIC with the aid of some of our AIHL officials to assist in delivering.

As there are 2 courses running (Monday and Thursday), it is NOT mandatory to attend every day. Instead, officials are only required to attend one (1) of the days per week. i.e. if you can't attend the Monday, you must attend the Thursday.
