We are pleased to announce Diane Smith-Gander AO as the new Chancellor of UWA. Diane has demonstrated outstanding leadership in business and as the Chair to the Business School Board since January 2020. A distinguished alumna with a Bachelor of Economics, Diane is a committed advocate for gender equity and has made outstanding contributions to the community and the University. Her extensive experience and dedication to service will be invaluable in her new role. We look forward to her continued impact here at UWA.

UWA announces 16th Chancellor

The University of Western Australia’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Amit Chakma congratulates prominent Australian business leader Diane Smith-Gander AO, who has been announced as our new Chancellor.

A UWA alumna and Honorary Doctorate recipient, she is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Governance Institute of Australia. Her distinguished career includes advocacy for gender equity, and she is a past president of Chief Executive Women.

The UWA University Club hosted the launch of the annual MBA Mentoring Program in May which was attended by the Vice Chancellor Professor Amit Chakma, MBA student mentees and mentors.

The mentoring program is an integral part of the MBA program offering MBA students a unique opportunity to receive personalised guidance from senior business leaders over a period of six months. Esteemed mentors participating in the program include influential leaders and senior executives from the Perth business community.

Earlier this week Government House Western Australia Governor His Excellency the Hon. Chris Dawson AC APM and Mrs Dawson joined Vice-Chancellor Professor Amit Chakma at the UWA Business School.

Our guests met with Associate Professor Doina Olaru and Dr Brett Smith to discuss innovative research and impactful projects undertaken by the Centre for Business Data Analytics (CBDA) at UWA with corporate partners, including:
- collaborating with Rise-X on using real-time shipping data (AIS) to create a market for fuel bunkering; and
- applying data analytics to trace supply chains and decrease the number of product recalls and time required for their detection.

These student projects are supervised by Associate Professor Paul Bergey as part of the Master of Business Analytics at UWA.
