Child Protection workers don't take strike action lightly but after years of being ignored by the government about the crisis within the sector, members have been left with no other choice. ✊📢

All we are asking for is a system that ensures safe children, supported families and valued workers. 🔴

Today, members from Child Protection and Family Services in both Armadale and Albany have taken strike action over dangerous workloads, chronic understaffing and unsafe working conditions. ✊

For years, Child Protection Workers have been raising the alarm about these issues but have been largely ignored by the government. CPFS workers look after some of the most vulnerable people in Western Australia but need the appropriate resources to provide this critical service.

31/07/2024

It's a huge day for CPFS members in Armadale and Albany who have taken powerful strike action to bring attention to the urgent sector-wide crisis facing WA Child Protection Workers and the vulnerable children and families they support. Well done to everyone who has taken part! ✊❤

Last week, CPSU/CSA Bunbury members and Branch Secretary, Rikki Hendon joined Public Sector Alliance partners at South West Health Campus for a lunchtime stop-work action calling on Government to improve public sector wages and conditions to attract and retain workers, particularly in remote and regional areas.

Branch Secretary, Rikki Hendon addressed members' disappointment following Government's first offer, which fell short on pay and failed to address members' priority claims and key regional claim items...

“We received a first offer for our members’ pay conditions and disappointingly the pay offer was...less than that of other groups of workers the Government has made offers to. Further, the five items that we put in our claim that was specifically about attracting and retaining workers in regional Western Australia [were ignored]. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.”

With the sun shining, CPSU/CSA members gathered at Urban Orchard today to demand government come back to the bargaining table with a fair offer for the public sector.

For too long, the public sector has taken the brunt of budget repair measures. With 7 consecutive budget surpluses, the government has no excuse not to offer a deal that allows public sector workers to catch up and keep up with the spiralling cost of living.

Thank you to everyone who took part, including many of our public sector alliance partners and members outside of the CBD who staged solidarity actions in their own workplaces. Well done! ✊

The government is well aware there is an attraction and retention crisis in the public sector but has failed to listen to members and instead provided you with an initial offer that ignored your priority claim items for pay, superannuation, a 4 day work week trial, regional entitlements, parental leave and more. Members deserve a meaningful offer and they are ready to fight for it!

During this morning's Online Delegate Briefing, your workplace delegates voted overwhelmingly to reject Government's first offer, which fails to address your key priority claim items and falls significantly short on our initial ask for pay.

This afternoon, your Branch Secretary, Rikki Hendon, addressed the media to share the decision of CPSU/CSA delegates and announce our rejection of Government's first offer for the Public Sector CSA Agreement 2024, stating:
"...On a range of core matters that are extremely important to our members - that are high priorities for our members, this offer doesn't stack up. And today, our delegates have rejected that offer and determined to keep campaigning for a better deal."

Over the coming weeks and months, CPSU/CSA members in workplaces across WA will now begin to take escalated action until Government comes back with a fair offer that will allow our members to catch up and keep up with the spiralling cost of living. 💪

Yesterday we received the first offer for your Public Sector CSA Agreement 2024. While our team of Industrial Officers are working hard to upack the offer in full for members, our initial takeaway is that the offer falls short on pay and includes NO response to your priority claim items.

We will be discussing the offer in detail with Delegates at tomorrow's Online Delegate Briefing. We strongly encourage Delegates to register now for this important meeting: https://www.cpsucsa.org/all_delegates_briefing_12062024

It is time to decide if we should reject Government's offer and keep fighting for a better outcome. Make sure your voice is heard by talking to your delegate today and keep a close eye on your inbox throughout the week for a comprehensive overview of the offer and next steps. ✊
