您的孩子在学习中文吗？您希望他们准备高考（WACE 西澳教育文凭）时选读中文吗？您希望通过他们努力学习“中文第二语言“（Chinese Second Language）之下获得该科目的ATAR优异成绩吗？
但是，您知道吗？尽管您的孩子在澳大利亚出生、成长、接受教育，尽管他们平常很少说中文，但由于他们生活在可能使用中文的华人家庭，并可能在课堂外使用中文，他们因此失去在西澳中学选读“中文第二语言“课程的权利。他们只能选择程度更高、难度更大的“中文背景语言“课程。很多西澳华人家庭的孩子不得已在中学放弃学习中文，或者报读能学到“汉字”但难度较低的“日本第二语言”。
在当前政策环境下，非华人家庭的孩子，即使在有中文语境的亚洲国家生活超过6年、能够流利使用中文，但由于没有华裔背景且并不使用华人姓氏，在返回西澳上中学时仍然可以选读“中文第二语言”课程。因此，这导致了教育机会的不公平现象。
