Bring along your favourite Teddy tomorrow for our Petrie Playtime Teddy Bear’s Picnic 🧸 Free and fun for ages 0-5 years. Best accessible via Gate 10 on Wyllie Street.
1B students have been mad about measurement lately! Over the last two weeks, they have gone loopy for length and crazy about capacity!
This week is our Container Drive in Week 5. Year 1 has won every term so far. Which Year Level will collect the most containers this week?
Bring in your containers from home, and let's see how many we can collect by the end of the week. The winners will be announced on Tuesday!
Don't forget to let your teacher know if you bring in containers so that you can go in the draw to win a prize.
We are starting to collect donations for our School Fete. Every student who brings in a donation goes into the draw to win a $200 gift card. Every donation over the next 6 weeks will receive a ticket in the draw.
This week we are collecting soft drink cans. Donations can be left at the office from 8.30 - 8.50am each day. See the Student Leaders outside the reflection room! Every little bit helps. 😃
Isaac competed this weekend as part of the Queensland Karate Team at the National Karate Championships in Geelong, Victoria. Isaac won bronze for Kumite (fighting).
In conjunction with this week's PBL Focus, "I Strive for Excellence", we received a special message from former Petrie Student and Paralympian, Brenden Hall. Brenden shared with the students how he strives for excellence. We are excitedly waiting to see Brenden compete in the Paralympics in Paris later this month.
This week our PBL Focus is: "I Strive for Excellence." Thanks to our Year 6 classes for your input in this week's video.
We are so proud of our display, celebrating now and then. We were awarded 2nd place! 🥈
If you are visiting the show, don’t forget to vote for our display for the People’s Choice Award! ❤️
Congratulations to the last three Principal Award Winners! Ashton put in extra work to his historical research in his own time, Aurelia consistently keeps the school clean by picking up rubbish in her own time and Teddy put in a huge effort to write a well constructed and entertaining narrative.
Keep on making Petrie a great place to be!
Stay Safe, Happy and Well,
Mr Barath

Congratulations to our Award Winners for Week 4. Our Year 5 & 6 students were missing today due to the earlier start of Gala Day. They will also miss next week's assembly.

Gala Day Information for Year 5 & 6 families.
Please note the earlier start and finish times.
Today, we had a visit from a special ex-Petrie student, the Premier of Queensland, the Hon Steven Miles. The Premier visited a Year One and Year Six class and spoke about his time at Petrie. The students asked lots of insightful questions and represented the school proudly.
There was lots of fun and friendship at our Olympics themed Petrie Playtime. It’s so lovely to see new friendships grow and bloom each week between children (and parents). 🫶
Today there were themed activities linking into some of the Olympic sports as well of lots of fun, messy crafts!
🥇🥈🥉
We made gold medals, spray bottle Olympic torch painting, sand javelin, ring toss, Barbie ‘swimming’, boat ‘rowing’, table top ‘soccer’, basketball, trampolining, balance beam ‘gymnastics’, ‘skateboarding’ scooter boards button colour sorting, Australian themed sensory tray and Olympic ring paint stamping.
Gala Day Skaters are slowly building their skill level, now adding some jumps and scoop-skates to their repertoire of skills! Excited to see how what they will do next!
Year 4’s enjoying our Living History Australia Incursion last Friday. Students learnt all about how life changed for those people sent as convicts to Australia. They had the opportunity to examine different artifacts from that period close up. A very enjoyable morning!
Please join Mrs Vitale tomorrow morning 9-10:30am for an Olympics themed Playtime! All children aged 0-5 years welcome.
6C have been exploring the effects of natural disasters on the earth’s layers for Science this term. They conducted an experiment to visually see the impact of a volcanic eruption. It was interesting to observe the sand after the eruption and how it represented the igneous rock that forms when the magma cools and crystalises, having a lasting affect on the earth’s crust. This was a lot of fun!

2D made our very own Krabby Patties! We were even able to able stop Plankton from stealing the recipe!
Congratulations to our Award Winners for Week 3!
Hi Everyone, We have a number of unwanted filing cabinets at school. They are rust free but have no keys to lock them. There are 8 two drawer cabinets, 2 three drawer and 2 four drawer cabinets. If you would like to give one a new home, please drop into the office and give a small donation to our chaplaincy service (whatever you can afford) and you can take one.
This week's PBL Focus is: "I Use My Manners."
This would be a great focus to be reinforced at home, as well as at school.
Check out the video from our Year 5 & 6 media team.
Principal's Newsletter Message
Hi Everyone,
I am going to do something in my newsletter this week that I don’t do often enough. I want to tell you how amazing our school is. There has been so much positive growth across the school over the last twelve to eighteen months that everyone should be incredibly proud of. I would like to share just a few highlights with you.
Petrie State School students, with the help of their teachers and aides, have increased their academic ability and results across the board. We are achieving well above similar schools in English, Maths and Science. Our students with disability consistently achieve higher results in English and Maths than most schools in the state and our indigenous students achieve higher results than the Region.
Behaviour incidents in Term Two of this year have halved due to our concerted focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning, rigorous reflection process and ongoing communication with parents. Students want to do the right thing and have the guidance and guide rails to do so. While we still have the same students, we now have the processes and the people on board to make sure that 95% of our students are engaged in their learning 95% of the time.
How does this happen? It is certainly not by fluke or by accident. There has been a steady increase in results across the school due to the hard work of everyone in the Petrie State School community. From teachers to aides, to Mary and Cynthia in the office, to Dan the groundsman, to Eleisha in First Aid, everyone puts in 110% for the wellbeing and education of Petrie State School students.
While all staff members are committed to the school and put in their best efforts each and every day, there are a few people that I would like to mention specifically.
Wendy Rose and Aiden Jarvis spend weeks and weeks of their own time supporting the Arts and extra-curricular activities for students at Petrie. From C-Gen to Singspiration to camp to Pine Rivers show, Aiden and Wendy organise, supervise and celebrate the achievements of our students in these activities.
Susan Drysdale is our ‘resident artist’ teacher aide at Petrie who also gives her time for the benefits of students across the school. She runs art clubs, art lessons on Gala Days and special events like our Petrie Bunny display at Strathpine Shopping Centre. She is also a dab hand in the garden, running gardening clubs when she is not running art clubs. With her clothes even more outlandish than mine and her passion for the arts, she is our resident Picasso and our school would be far less colourful without her.
Finally, Joan Bell only officially works at Petrie State School one day per week but she has put many more hours into the grounds of our school volunteering on her non work days than her paid hours. She is truly the role model for keeping fit through sensible physical activity. Our grounds would not look anywhere near as great as they do without her help.
It takes a village to raise a child and at Petrie State School our village is very active, healthy and supportive through the commitment and perseverance of its members. There are many more people that I could list and thank and I am sure that parents could give great examples.
This why Petrie is a great place to be.
Stay Safe, Happy and Well,
Troy Barath
Bunnings Construction Playgroup 🚜🚧🏗️🦺
Thank you Kristin from Bunnings Brendale for visiting our Petrie Playtime today! Kristin brought along some Bunnings vests for the children to keep and the children created a construction themed sand art craft.
We also had some hammering activities, themed sensory tray, sand building and digging, transport play, and ooey gooey ooblek exploration.
Sadly we said farewell to our Jabiru helper Lydia. Thank you Lydia for all of your support with Petrie Playtime. We wish you all the best with your next chapter.
Gala Day permission forms and payment are due tomorrow - Friday 26th July
(Yr 5 & 6 students)
Our Lost Property is currently out of control. This photo is from 13 school days this term. We all know that children lose things... but none of these items are named. All named items are returned to students. Please help us by naming your child's jumper, hat, water bottle and lunchbox. If you are missing something please visit the Covered Area. The pile is growing every single day!
We would love you to be involved...
