As we get closer to Santa Photo season let's talk about our kids and their fear level of Santa. The children who enter our studio have a Santa acceptance factor that varies from completely confident and comfortable in his presence, which includes jumping for joy when they see him, to a small percentage of children who demonstrate a phobia of Santa.

Disclaimer ... I'm not a Psychologist and can't diagnose phobias but I have a phobia myself and can identify similar reactions in others. My phobic reactions include feeling sick, racing heartbeat, frustration and the strong desire to run away from the problem. When a child mentions that they feel sick about meeting Santa I understand what they're going through and there are a couple of ways that we can work around this.

First option is to book the Magical Santa Session where we start taking photos without Santa in the studio. With this session type we can leave Santa behind the set for the entire shoot if you feel that your little ones won't enjoy seeing him at all. You just have to discreetly let me know when you arrive. The Magical Session is the only one where we include Santa-free images.

The second option for an anxious child is to book a Special Needs Session. These sessions are quieter, you are less likely to meet other people waiting outside boldly talking about Santa and you also have a little longer in the studio for your young ones to adjust. They're similar to a Quick & Easy Session and Santa is in all the photos. These sessions should only be booked if you know your children have a strong reaction towards Santa as we only release a limited number each year.

If you think your child can become triggered by the word 'Santa' rest assured that we don't mention Santa Photos in the studio when you arrive and we recommend you avoid waiting near anyone else outside who might talk about him. If you're not standing right by the door when it's time for your session, don't worry, we will call out for you. We work though the sessions in order of start time and you won't miss out.

If you have a child who displays a strong phobic reaction on arrival and they are doing everything they can not to enter the studio I'm happy to discuss the option of coming back to the studio later in the day. If that doesn't work I can offer a credit toward another session.

It was Casey and Aaron's wedding anniversary on the weekend and I can't let the occasion escape without sharing some of their love. I've know them both for years, Casey's Dad was the best soccer coach for my Max. Our families grew up together and we were all excited when Aaron proposed. Welcome to 2023! I've spent a peaceful day at home editing a maternity gallery and thinking about the adventures I'll encounter in the next 12 months.

I'm sharing one of my favourite images from 2022. Casey was a stunning Bride and I really enjoyed working on her gallery to see where her style would take me. When I edit weddings I listen to music and sometimes watch movies with great cinematography to inspire me. I can get completely lost in the place and time and that's where I do my best work.

I hope your 2023 is wonderful and you find time to do more of what you love. 😘

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us for our tenth year of Santa Sessions and the wonderful people who spread the word to our new families. Two months, more than 1,100 families in 2022 and thousands of images uploaded... it's been quite the journey and, as usual, Santa and I miss it already.

It's an honour to see your families grow over the years, both in height and numbers. I was excited to see this gorgeous set of twins greet me this year. Their big brother has been coming since he was this tiny.

I usually share the cute pics as I don't feel it's my place to share the ones that went, um ... not to plan. I'd love you to share your favourite Photogreff Santa pics in the comments, including the not-to-plan ones that make you smile.

This was a fun shoot. This great looking group of friends had no idea Santa had arrived via the fireplace. They were all surprised when he "Ho Ho Ho'd".

They have inspired me to add a session type for friends and colleagues aged 16 and over. My other products were focussed on families only but of course 'family' are sometimes not related. The same goes for work colleagues who want to do something fun together and maybe capture an image for the office Christmas greeting. You'll now find the new Friends & Colleagues Session on the website.

Hello there! I took Santa to LA for a new Santa Suit fitting with a wonderful Hollywood seamstress. We've now picked up the goods and are coming home. A heads-up ... If you try to reach me in the next 24 hours I won't be able to reply.

This year you’ll decide which session you want and which month you want to book because we have different pricing for low season, mid and peak season sessions.

This is the shot I mentioned in the last post. I immediately noticed the shape of a pregnant woman standing in the light. Look in the comments where I've outlined her shape, rather badly but you'll get the idea.

I love photography as a form of creative expression. There's so much more to see in the reality that is captured by the lens.

Welcome to 2022. I'm taking a break during January and I'm mostly working on photos of places, not people. This image, from a magical gap in red rock, draws you in to see what swirling shape features in the sandy band of light. That band of light only exists for an hour per day over a few weeks each year and I was so lucky to get onto a Photographer's tour during that time.

The Photographer tours are banned now by the Navajo and may never be allowed again. That makes my collection of images quite rare and I've hesitated to edit them all because the pressure of doing them justice is huge. It's not just an image for me, it was an experience that was incredible and will never be repeated.

After taking a break I've found the nerve to work on them.

What do you see in the swirling light? I see a young Pronghorn Antelope facing upwards, the animal that the area was named after. It's head is near the top of the light, facing to the left. I can see the dark round nose and the legs loosely hanging down as though it's floating up. I've got another image coming soon that will blow your mind, there's a woman in the light. K x

That's a wrap for 2021.

We finished shooting Santa Sessions last night. I felt emotional at the thought of no more happy families in matching pyjamas, toddlers jumping for joy and radiant positive energy in the studio this year.

I loved it, I loved looking forward to it every day and I loved the beautiful feedback when clients received their galleries. The hope of being able to do this again in 2021 got me through 4 months of closure during lockdown. We are definitely doing this again in 2022.

Thank you for coming, thank you for supporting my business and thank you for being amazing and sharing my posts, tagging me & recommending us. I am so very grateful for you. We have delivered galleries to more than 950 families this season.
