It was wonderful to see everyone lean into the practices, learning new ways of breathing, moving and restoring. Prioritising self-care and wellbeing, well done 👏🏽

In my latest newsletter I discuss the importance of nurturing mental health. It is not something that is good and just stays that way, it's something that needs to be continually tended to, just like the vege patch. How much time do you take to w**d, water and replenish your garden? Or anything for that matter, your children's needs, or your pets? How much time do you dedicate to your physical health, considering what you're fuelling your body with or how much exercise you're getting? The truth is, life is a juggling act. All facets of your life need to be continually reassessed and rebalanced to maintain wellbeing.

The wonderful thing about yoga is its inherent holistic focus. One aspect I'd like to broaden your awareness of over the next couple of months is The Panchamaya Kosha system. This system comes from an ancient text called the Taittiriya Upanishad. Ayurvedic healing practices, known as yoga’s “sister science,” utilise the Panchamaya Kosha System as a roadmap to the origin and manifestation of dis-ease in the body.

Join me to deepen your awareness and broaden your perspective on how to maintain holistic well-being. I have a number of offerings to take you through to Summer, (gasp, I know!) As time seems to speed up at this time of year, it’s even more important to make the time to slow down. Classes will conclude on the 20th December and resume in February. To help you make the most of the next 9 weeks join one of my weekly classes.

Mums and Bubs Yoga is back for term 4 from next Monday .

This class is designed to help you rebuild strength and stability after the birth of your child and foster confidence and community, in a supportive group environment.

Time is taken to learn good breathing habits, building functional core strength. Breath led movements and relaxation practices help to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety.

General advice is to begin from 6 weeks natural birth and 10 weeks post caesarean. Best suited for babies up until crawling.

This month we are taking a deep dive into the world of Pranayama, I will introduce you to the vast array of breath focussed practices available to us. I have practiced yoga, asana, meditation and pursued a spiritual path for 20+ years and if there is one thing I have come to value most it is Pranayama.

In 2008 I spent a month living in an ashram in India where I practiced yoga 24/7. The course was specifically Pranayama, I practiced many different breathing techniques along with practices to prepare the body for breathwork such as Kriyas, cleansing techniques. It was a great way to immerse myself in the practices and feel the benefits from continued practice. I hope the tools you learn with me can be taken in their individual form and practiced at home.

We are habituated to certain tensions and patterns of thought, of behaviour, of how we manage stress, what emotions flood in, and so much more. So many of us have a reflex to breathe in unsupportive ways.

But when we really develop an intimacy with the breath we can do a few brilliant things:

1. When you get intimately attuned to your body you can start noticing when tension, anger, frustration, and a host of other things are rising. We can address what's happening in our system pre-emptively and learn to create new supportive habits. Imagine the potential of this!

2. We can train a new habit by leaning into breath practices so that WHEN an inevitable difficulty comes rather than our normal habituations like freezing, or panicking, or flipping out, or whatever else your habit is, you will lean into breathing, without even thinking.

3. You can deepen your relationship with PRESENCE with consciousness itself. Because the breath is always imminent. It is now. And when you ride the waves of breath you are riding something deeper than all of your surface confusions.

So join me for a journey of the intimate, that which is always with you, your breath.
