This is our cheery Darryl,

Darryl has been exercising his way and enjoying life at Lakeside Leisure Centre for about 19 years!

Through 11 hip operations, Darryl relies on a consistent routine to help improve his mobility, strength, and just keep his muscles moving!

5 Days a week, Darryl uses the indoor leisure pool/ spa for gentle stretches and water walking🚶‍♂️.

His water walking routine will usually consist of walking sideways, using aqua dumbbells for extra weight (dragging them through the water to add challenge while he walks), small jumps, and running on the spot. A full body workout in one hour!

Not only is this keeping him active, Darryl has met some fantastic mates, as well as people to have a laugh with while he's keeping fit.

This is Ros,

Ros has been exercising her way at Lakeside for some time now. She exercises her way by staying consistent in what works for her! ✅

It may not be the traditional lap swimming, but Ros is a great example of how many other ways you could get moving and have fun in water!

Her exercise of choice is on top of a pool noodle in a bike riding position, cycling her knees and ankles while her arms are in a breaststroke motion (or doggy paddling).

After Ros had a bilateral knee operation, she absolutely stands by 20 laps of this routine for strength building through her whole body. The warm water provides a cushioning support for all her movements which feels so therapeutic!

Today, 25 July, is World Drowning Prevention Day. A day to remind everyone on the importance of staying alert around water for the safety of all. But the message shouldn't stop there.

We want to encourage continual reminders of how you and others can stay safe in and around water. Do one thing to help prevent drowning, such as:
✅ Always ensure adequate supervision of children and weak or non-swimmers when in and around water.
✅ Help to educate others on the importance of water safety
✅ Learn aquatic rescue skills and CPR
✅ Encourage sensible, safe behaviour in and around water
✅ Identify and remove potential water safety hazards
✅ Become a Pool Lifeguard or Swim Teacher
