News from Clontarf - mixing it up a bit
Our Irrawang Hornets headed over Hunter River HS today for a joint training session with the Hunter River Dolphins. The boys were as excited to see former IHS Director Poss as he was to see them, and then rip into a session with their Clontarf brothers.
Both academies enjoyed playing some footy before finishing the session with some well earned Bacon and Egg roles for breakfast.
This will be the start of regular sessions with both Clontarf academies.
Well done students and a huge shout out to the beautiful Bev at Bunnings Warehouse Australia Heatherbrae for making sure the students had all the paint needed for the project free of charge…..and it was a lot
Congratulations to last weeks IHS PBL recipient, Noah.
Noah was nominated for his diligence and respect to students and staff, demonstrating PBL values at all times in school and out in the community – a quiet achiever.

Irrawang Clontarf Year 8 Boys Camp
On Monday, a group of excited boys headed north to Taree for the 2024 Regional Basketball Competition. Upon arrival the boys checked into their accommodation at Camp Elim before going out for a team dinner.
Tuesday was carnival day so they headed to the Basketball Stadium where they played against other Clontarf Academies. The day was filled with fun and Clontarf spirit. After the carnival the boys had a swim before going out to the movies to finish off the night.
The boys thoroughly enjoyed the camp and represented IHS and the Clontarf Foundation perfectly.
STEM Immersion Day
During today's Educational Pathways Programs(EPP) STEM Immersion Day at HMAS Waterhen, our IHS students along with students from Tomaree HS and Hunter River HS had an amazing opportunity to explore various careers and trades within the Royal Australian Navy.
The event featured a tour of the naval base and hands-on activities that highlighted the technical and engineering skills required for roles such as naval engineering, electrical, and combat systems.
The students engaged with serving members of the navy who shared their expertise and experiences, providing a comprehensive look at how STEM disciplines are applied in the military context.
The VERY lucky students and staff finished their day on a tour of the harbour on this magnificent day. WOW!
Thanks Mr Lee from EPP for organising such an awesome opportunity for all students.
Congratulations Tylor...
Tylor is the recipient this term of the Kip McGrath Education Centres Australia Raymond Terrace scholarship.
Tylor is committed to his weekly lesson with the teacher to assist with English studies.
Sincere thanks to Kip McGrath for their on going support of our students and school. This is a wonderful opportunity that many of our students have benefitted from over 12 years.

Stay tuned for another date …
Year 10 bstreetsmart excursion.
After a big day, the students are on their way home with an ETA at school of approx 3.30pm.
bstreetsmart is the inspiring initiative of the Trauma Service at Westmead Hospital. Westmead’s Trauma Service is constantly reminded through their hands on work that young people aged between 15–30 are disproportionally represented in road trauma.
As a result, they have a strong commitment to Road Safety Education.
The purpose of bstreetsmart is to reduce the fatality and injury rates of young people by promoting safe behaviour as drivers, riders and passengers.
Interesting conversations at dinner tonight.
A beautiful, sunny, winters day for Community Access…
Today Mrs Eaton’s and Mrs Mulley’s students enjoyed a day out in Newcastle.
They used 3 modes of transport - the 140 bus, light rail and ferry to make their way into and around the city.
Bettys Burgers were recommended and enjoyed by staff and students, before returning to school via the 136 bus.
What an awesome day and a wonderful experience for our well behaved students!
