The Prana Room
We help you to move, breathe, and LIVE better
Whilst walking on the beach this morning, I didn’t find an oyster with a pearl… but what a beautiful reminder to open up to new things
Today is my last day working in the clinic. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the clients who have come through the doors over the past two years and to the therapists who have shared the space and their offerings.
Hugs and love always to my neighbours and who make me feel so welcome everyday.
“This is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience gifts me.”
Here’s to 2024. Watch this space.
Gem Kinesiology Earth Alchemy
With only a handful of days to go there’s been a lot of reflection lately. for the gifts that 2024 will bring.
A reminder to book your appointments with our therapists over the next 4 weeks before we close our doors and embrace new adventures elsewhere🦋
Please go to our booking page or contact us directly. You can also drop Gemma, Vicki and Deb a DM to see where you can find them in 2024.

Life is about trusting your feelings, taking chances, finding happiness, leaming from your experiences, and realising everything changes.
Sadly, after much consideration, The Prana Room will be closing the doors on December 22. Our aim was to create a nurturing space of health and healing - and we certainly did that.
But now it’s time for a new beginning.
Lisa will be taking a break from occupational therapy for a little while. The good news is that all the other therapists will be continuing with their offerings on the Sunshine Coast.

Thankyou so much for choosing the Prana Room for the past 2 years - we’ve loved getting to know you.
Come visit us again in the next 6 weeks, before we say ‘farewell’
What your body might really need.
A warm hug, a moment to rest, real nutrients, safe connection, someone to listen, a good laugh, a good cry, sunlight on your skin, slow movement, nature, a long bath, a hot cup of tea, time & space, someone to tell you it's okay.
𝕋𝕖𝕟𝕤𝕖𝕘𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕪 | ‘the concept that describes the relationship between tension and compression in a structure.’
In the case of a human body, tensegrity refers to the forces of tension provided by the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia pulling on the structure (the bones and joints) to enable it to be both stable AND efficient in movement.
Lisa has been at the latest mini intensive training with
learning all things myofascial.
If you have long held body and movement patterns that are not serving you well (pain, poor breathing, reduced movement) book in for a body reading assessment with Lisa.
“Go forward with a column of support provided by a tensegral spine. Engage with what you love, with shoulders and arms that are your wings.
Receive and give with your upward and outward vocal exbression that comes from the deepest part of the real you.” Chris Clayton
Each time your body compensates: to avoid pain, absorb the force of an impact, support poor posture, or work around a new movement limitation. It finds the path of least resistance.
Over time, you incorporate the compensations into your overall pattern of movement. Maybe you move differently to avoid pain, or avoid certain positions altogether. You may not even notice your “new normal”.
Inside your body, the effects of compensation may be less obvious to you. Your internal structures (your bones, muscles, organs, connective tissue, and nerves) may now be moving and functioning in ways they were never designed to do, but without causing any obvious problems – yet.
With each compensation your body adapts…and adapts some more….layering compensation on top of compensation.
My yoga teacher Matthew Sanford says “listen to your body’s whispers, so you don’t have to hear it scream”
If your body is asking you to move or breathe better, make an appointment to see Lisa. Don’t wait until it runs out of options and your whole body system says “Enough!”
“A cat's purr vibrates at a frequency of 25 to 150 hertz, which is the same frequency at which muscles and bones repair themselves. So, after a workout, let your cat sit on you” Ricky Gervais 🐾 🐾
I think this is also the perfect excuse to have a clinic cat!
Somatic practices can remove and release trauma and tension held in the body - however that’s not necessarily our primary intention.
Somatic practices restore regulation & resiliency to the nervous system, so the body can metabolise trauma naturally, safely and sustainably... all on its own.

Breath is important. We know that.
The real questions is: Can we be better off with more efficient, easier breath?
Lisa has just spent the last 2 days with ‘Opening the Breath’ workshop because it is SO important for every day function.
Breath becomes compromised by stress, disease, and the environmental trappings of progress; you can still breathe under this pressure, but it leads to poor breathing habits that slowly whittle away at your health.
Breathing well, means you can balance your energy levels, your nervous system state, the efficiency of your digestive system, the clarity of your thoughts and even improve your posture!
📸
The practice of yoga brings together mind body and spirit. Many occupational performance models illustrate the complex network of factors involved in human occupational performance, and the domain of concern of occupational therapy. Which is why we believe yoga and OT are so compatible.
Yoga is considered as one potential ‘tool’ within your treatment plan. As with all plans, your goals are a priority. We use the most relevant and evidence based modalities to help you reach them.
- mindful breathing practices increases the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system. As a result Yoga lowers the heart rate, improves digestion and quality of sleep all whilst reducing stress.
- physical postures work towards improved balance, better posture, confidence getting off the floor, easier bed mobility or reaching across your body
All of these things help you move and live functionally.
📸 Go Jo - best model ever 😊
Getting all my ducks (Or is it crystal spheres?) in a row!
Lisa is away next Wednesday 23rd, so there are no appointments. If you want to book in for any available times this Friday 18th or the following Friday 25th - get in quick 😊
Book online or send a DM.
“The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.”

Always welcome.
How can yoga assist me in my day to day life?
Research into the physical practice of yoga (asana) is known to assist with
- improving seated and standing balance
- Safely getting on and off the floor
- Functional reach (across the body or outside the centre of gravity)
- Better endurance to complete everyday tasks
- Body awareness
- Improves posture
Whilst evidence in breath work (pranayama) and meditation demonstrates supports
- self management skills for anxiety
- Sensory modulation
- Pain management
- Improved respiration
- Better sleep habits
And much more!
The principles and practices of yoga can be included in your occupational therapy treatment plan to work towards your daily functional goals.
If you have the capacity and confidence to move and breathe better why wouldn’t you?
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology encompasses holistic health practices which use the gentle art of muscle monitoring to access information about a person’s well-being. It combines Western techniques and Eastern wisdom to promote physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.
Kinesiology identifies the elements which inhibit the body’s natural internal energies.
It is a non-invasive, client centred, gentle and integrative modality which requires utilising the skills of your body’s biofeedback. By using this muscle testing we are identifying the cause of a problem, the blockage, the origin of your symptoms… the “why”. All your experiences, memories and emotions are stored in memory banks in your body, brain and energy field!
Some of our feelings from past experiences set us up to perceive that a negative experience may happen again. This may be experienced as a pattern you can notice in the self but not change it - yet.
Everything is energy, and feelings and viewpoints, like energy, can change. Sometimes they just need a little extra support.
If you'd like to find out more, feel free to send Gem a message or book in for a Thursday session.
What is TRE®?
Trauma and Tension Release Exercises (TRE) is a somatic body based practice for people suffering with stress, anxiety, trauma or PTSD.
It doesn’t require talking about an event, feeling or issue, therefore it overcomes the language barriers that can bring up added stress.
TRE® includes a series of easy stretches using the muscles of the lower body and builds up a little shaking in the legs.
The TRE® mechanism, or shaking ability, exists in all mammals and humans. It is the body’s most natural and organic way of unravelling contracted or tight stress patterns, as well as reducing the charge of stress hormones and unhealthy chemical build up, bringing the body back into it’s natural balance and a stable condition.
TRE® is recommended for anyone who is feeling stressed, anxious or traumatised (including those who have witnessed other people’s trauma). It helps those who suffer from pain, inflammation or tightness in their body.
Book in for an appointment or call Deb to discuss how TRE can work for you on Saturdays
🚨Before embarking on any trauma release practices please call Deb or your healthcare professional to ensure they are suitable. If you struggle with complex psychological issues or trauma please only do these exercises under the supervision of a qualified TRE® practitioner.🚨
Traditional Acupuncture works on the energetic meridians of the body.

What exactly do human beings get from reading books? Is it just a matter of pleasure, or are there benefits beyond enjoyment? The scientific answer is a resounding “yes.”

There’s nothing wrong with watching an entire television series, start to finish, in a single weekend — just as there’s nothing wrong with eating a large, luscious dessert. It’s all about balance.
These are some of the books on my bedside table at the moment. YES .. just some of them!

I love how OT and yoga fit so well together. Here is Zayne in his version of some yoga poses - whilst using his drum and listening to his favourite, (check out his shirt) Michael Bublé. We often use rhythm and expansion in our sessions to keep Zayne’s body supple and help him work towards his goals.
It’s national Yoga week in Australia
Yoga is much more than just a set of poses.
It is a way of life that involves forming a deeper connection with your inner self, improving your quality of life and sense of well-being.
Modern yoga classes have taken on a more fitness orientated approach. However, this doesn’t mean that the spiritual aspect of Yoga has been lost. Many practitioners continue to find solace in the practice and use it to connect with their inner selves to find a sense of calm and balance.
Whether you seek a physical work out or spiritual exploration, Yoga can offer both combinations.
Every person has a unique perception of yoga. So, what does Yoga mean to you?
📸
At The Prana Room, our practitioners offer different modalities and perspectives. However, we look through the same lens, in that we treat the WHOLE person.
We see the whole picture of your health and will work to rebuild and nourish all aspects of you.
Our clinic creates an environment where you can show up as your full, authentic self and know that you'll be listened to and cared for.

The lived experience of trauma effects so much more than an individuals, emotional and psychological well-being. Trauma also impacts the relationship with the body and how we move through the world.
It can have a debilitating physical impact. In addition to effects such as anxiety, memory loss, and disassociation, trauma can make individuals more prone to serious chronic health conditions.
Body focused treatment options such as Yoga are becoming an important part of multifaceted approaches to healing.
Trauma informed yoga / trauma aware yoga is based on gentle movement with the emphasis on the internal experience rather than mastering yoga poses. It is an opportunity to explore and nurture the inner self as you breathe and move.
TOUCH: No hands on assists or adjustments.
KINDNESS: Invitational language is always used
CHOICE : Different options with complete choice over what you do with your body. BOUNDARIES : No need to talk to others in group classes.

Winter is inevitable. But you can keep yourself warm and healthy with a Zen Thai Shiatsu treatment.
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕫𝕖𝕟 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕚 𝕤𝕙𝕚𝕒𝕥𝕤𝕦?
One of the biggest differences between a massage and zen thai shiatsu treatment is the equipment, or lack thereof. Zen thai shiatsu takes place on the floor, using a thick mat, and requires more movement than a traditional massage. This practice aims to relieve joint and muscle pain through a series of stretches using the entire body, whilst touching on various acupressure points. I like to call it ‘structural energetics’.
What benefits can you expect?
ℝ𝕖𝕝𝕚𝕖𝕗 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕚𝕟𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝕞𝕦𝕤𝕔𝕝𝕖𝕤
If you are spending less times outside, it can lead to some atrophy in our muscles. Some of us find that we get sore and stiff. A treatment can help the body supple and move well.

It stimulates your circulation, which helps keep you warmer.

We can end up with dry skin in the cold months. Massage and oil goes a long way towards preventing this.
𝕃𝕠𝕨 𝕞𝕠𝕠𝕕
Some of us suffer seasonal depression in the winter. Regular ZTS treatments helps to move ‘stuck’ energy and feel more alive.
𝕀𝕞𝕞𝕦𝕟𝕚𝕥𝕪 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕣
ZTS helps us move and breath better. With better general health, we are less likely to catch cold / virus.
