What makes your life ‘rich’?
Is it:
A) the fancy house, exotic holidays or expensive toys (boat, jet-ski, motorbike)?
or
B) meaningful relationships, fulfilling your calling, personal growth and a life full of peace?
Whilst stuff from column A make life fun, it’s column B that makes life worthwhile…. Take the time to invest in those aspects of your world. They are worth their weight in gold!!!

Acting is unusual in that it requires the voice, the body the mind and the heart of the artist to unite in action in order to become a work of art. And the more you (the actor) love what you do, the better it (your art) will be.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
All play and no work makes Jack a mere toy.
But if Jack was an actor, then all work would be play
And day after day after day, Jack would have to play!!

Theatre (when at its it is best) causes you to stop, look and re-assess. Hopefully, it stimulates you to self-analyse too. Self-analysis or self-assessment creates space for growth. Some even suggest it is an act of self-love. Bottom line, seeing yourself clearly is the first step towards making the kind of changes you need to develop into the person you want to be.

In this day and age when AI threatens to replace actors, it’s important to value the uniqueness of theatre and how it enriches society....
1. Theatre is about the moment: like a sporting event or concert, it’s about being with another few hundred people, gathering together to enjoy a moment in time.
2. Theatre is about connection: both universal, and personal – every participant has a distinct experience and that experience is magnified in because its shared with others.
3. Theatre is about life: theatre is a cultural phenomenon unlike any other - it exists for society to see who they are, or who they could be, as reflected by the mirror that theatre is.

Live theatre is a special event. So support it, treasure it and make it!

Ever heard the saying "Don’t let perfect get in the way of good"? Artists are notorious perfectionists, and perfectionism is notoriously problematic! Why? Because the need to get it ‘perfect’ stifles creativity. Rather than aiming for perfect, why not shift your bullseye slightly, and instead aim for excellent, good, or praiseworthy. These three qualities indicate a level of work or achievement that is both outstanding and attainable.

Loved seeing one of our favourite actors (and past Cauldronites) grace the small screen! Awesome performance by Justin in tonight’s episode of Mother and Son. Justin has been building his credentials and refining techniques for some time now - and it shows. A seamless and entertaining performance. Nice work Justin!

Have you noticed how easy it is to get caught in a negative narrative? When things seem to be falling to pieces sometimes what you need, is to flip this script. As billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli suggests, with a little ‘fresh air in your head’ you can see differently and find new ways to approach what at first seem to be insurmountable problems.

An acting career - like everything in life - is full of good times and bad times. And sometimes the good is hidden within the bad. In such times, your task is to seek the silver lining out. Doing so breathes hope into the situation, which strengthens your soul.

22/08/2023

Want a tip for a happy life? Develop the habit of reflecting on each day with gratitude. Thankfulness means you won’t take things for granted; you’ll worry about the ‘small stuff’ less and celebrate ‘little victories’ more. It's a skill anyone can learn – and a healthy alternative to resentment, regret or fear.

21/08/2023

Surviving in a gig economy like acting takes resilience. A motto to consider is ‘work on your career but cultivate your life’. yes you need to work hard, but don’t forget the riches of life! Set aside time for time friends and family, invest in hobbies (outside of acting) and create healthy habits for physical and mental wellbeing. That way, even if your career becomes difficult, other areas of life will replenish your soul.

It’s all too easy to get fixated on what’s not working in your life and spend valuable time and energy that would be better used on future opportunities. Take a tip from motivational speaker and author Brian Tracey and use the 80/20 rule. That is, spend 80% of your time on what’s working, rather than what’s not, and see the difference it makes.

17/08/2023

Some things in life vie for your attention. If they don’t add value, and become overwhelming distractions, they’ll derail you from achieving what you’re capable of. Learn to let go of what you cannot control in order to move towards what you can.

George Lucas knows what it takes to realise a dream.

It took four years to write Star Wars, and most studios rejected the script. Eventually, 20th Century Fox agreed to take a chance, but the $7.5 million budget fell short of the $18million needed. Shooting was problematic - shot in the desert in sweltering heat, equipment kept breaking down while crew members fainted. The budget blew out and the schedule ran over. His cinematographer quit, and then his editor. It got even worse when Lucas started getting chest pains…

But he didn’t quit.

Star Wars was released in 1977 and earned $775 million worldwide. Prompting spin offs (films, novels, comic books, and video games), it remains one of the most popular films ever.

We all have goals in life. And we all face obstacles. Let’s follow Lucas’ example – nurture self-belief, cultivate determination, and apply perseverance to overcome every obstacle.

Using your EQ creates amazing connections, not only on stage but also in life. Listening - truly listening – is about discerning what’s meant behind the words or actions and it’s that kind of listening that brings people together to create empathy and intimacy.

FOCUS… just how important is it?
The Matildas shootout against France last week provided an awesome example of the role focus plays in determining outcomes. Attaining focus that leads to success lies in an ability to fully tune in to what’s happening in your environment, whilst maintaining a clear connection to where you’re going and what you’re doing.
