As we approach this celestial milestone, celebrating the solstice at home can bring peace, joy, and reflection. Here are enchanting ways to embrace the winter solstice, infusing your space with warmth and light during the chill of winter:
Illuminate the Darkness: On the darkest day of the year, gather candles, lanterns, or string lights and arrange them around your home. As dusk falls, light them one by one, reflecting on the past year and setting intentions for the new cycle.
Create a winter nature table: The winter solstice is deeply connected to nature. Decorate a space in your home such as a shelf or small table with evergreen branches, pinecones, and other natural wintery treasures. This a symbolic reflection of connection with this season.
Solstice Feast: Prepare warming, hearty stews, soups and roast and celebrate with warm, spiced drinks.
Reflect and Release: Journal or meditate, reflecting on the past year. Write down what you wish to release with the long night, and consider what hopes and dreams you will carry into the returning light.
The winter solstice reminds us of the ever-changing cycles of nature and life. Celebrating it from our homes allows us to connect deeply with these rhythms in a personal, meaningful way. So gather your family, light a candle, lantern or firepit. Share the warm for food together in quieter, slower, gentle celebration of life.

The gut is often referred to as the 'second brain' due to the gut-brain axis, a bidirectional communication system enabled by the enteric nervous system ( the nervous system found throughout our entire gastrointestinal system).
Additionally, the latest science is also showing that our gut microbiome (the collection of organisms that live within our gastrointestinal tract) produces chemicals and neurotransmitters that can either positively or negatively influence our mood and mental health.

It's a busy time of year. Are you more stressed than you realise?
Being aware of how we are breathing is the key here. Shallow breathing, which is often how we breathe when we are busy or stressed.
Shallow breathing does not exercise the diaphragm in the same way as deep, slow breathing does, it can exacerbate tension, reduce circulation and oxygenation.
Slow breathing on the other had, increases blood and lymph flow, clams down our nervous system and reverses stress.
Enjoy the difference 🧘♂️🧘
There is an ever increasing body of research and clinic trials on herbal medicines that demonstrates both efficacy and safety.
We also can't ignore the 1000's of years in traditional knowledge of herbal medicines which makes it, arguably, the oldest healing modality on this earth.
HERBAL MEDICINE 🌿
Nature's medicine backed by both extensive science and tradition.
"The intelligence of nature never ceases to amaze me. Each plant used in herbal medicine holds a perfect balance of constituents, nutrients and phyto-active components to support the body in healing in so many different ways.
I use herbal medicines as part of treatment in just about every symptom and issue. From colds and flu, to anxiety, cardiovascular issues, hormone imbalance, insomnia, headaches and the list goes on!"

P E R I - M E N O P A U S E What is it?
Peri-menopause in the period of time before menopause where hormones start to wobble (fluctuations occur).
This period of time can be anywhere between approx 4-8yrs before menopause actually occurs.
How women feel this can be drastically different. From little to no symptoms, through to strong, hormonal symptoms.
Symptom severity is influenced by a woman's state of health including nutritional status, liver health, lifestyle, methylation and detoxification capabilities. Stress levels are also huge contributing factor.

" The number of gut bacterial cells is approximately equal to the total number of human cells in our body, so if we consider only cell counts, we are only about half human.
In terms of gene counts, the microbiome contains about 200 times more genes than the human genome, making bacterial genes responsible for
over 99% of our body's gene content!"

imple herb gardens have more than just a culinary purpose, they are part of your MEDICINAL GARDEN.
Gently bruise several fresh sage leaves/sprigs and add to a teapot and add boiling water. Other herbal teas can also be added to create more flavour e.g green tea or chamomile.
Add some manuka honey and sip for sore throats, or concentrate by boiling a handful of fresh sage in water on the stove, allow to cool and use as a gargle for sore throats or gum infections.

We all tend to have more stress in our lives than is healthy. It is just 21st-century living.
To feel healthier and balanced this year, make managing stress a priority.
1 Breathe
Purposeful, breathing where you gentle slow down and deepen your breath is a quick way to calm down the nervous system.
It's even been scientifically proven to reduce stress, improve focus, and to help 'turn' off the stress response.
2 Get enough sleep - every single night
We now know that the vast majority of the population requires a full eight hours of sleep per night for both short-term and long-term good health. To figure out a good bedtime, start with when you need to wake up and count back eight hours.
3 Enjoy some time outside
Seek out daily opportunities to be in nature. Walk in the park, go for a hike, walk along the beach, do some gardening, anything in nature that resonates with you will do. Expose yourself to the beauty of nature and reap the benefits. Immersing yourself in nature helps calm the central nervous system, elevate your mood, and increase energy levels. The effects of the benefits are felt for hours and days post-immersion.
