I'm Adam Worling, a City of Sydney councillor on the
Clover Moore Independent team
All political material authorised by: Adam Worling, 55 Brisbane St, Surry Hills NSW 2010 for the Clover Moore Independent Team.
Yesterday I worked with the amazing team to launch the 2024 campaign.
This initiative has been running for 10 years and has raised over $500k and I have no doubt this will be the biggest year yet.
The 2024 ambassador is Suki lost her amazing mum Margie in late 2023 and along with her husband Kevin and son Kai they are raising awareness for Ovarian cancer research which receives less than 0.7% of the Australian government’s medical research funding.
Ovarian cancer is the most lethal women’s cancer with the five-year survival rate sitting at a harrowing 29 per cent and still there is no really detection test.
Proceeds from the sale of the 2024 pendant will go towards vital funds for life-saving research.
How it started 2012. how it’s going 2024. Me and The OG.
Last night I represented to launch the LIMITLESS Festival - celebrating d/Deaf and disabled artists with theatre, stand-up, cabaret, and more.
Staged at 107 Projects in Redfern, you can enjoy a fully accessible hub with wheelchair access, a sensory chill space, and Auslan interpreted performances as part of .
Check at the program at https://sydneyfringe.com/limitless
It is not all election. On Saturday the hosted the annual Northcott Pet Day at Ward Park, Surry Hills. This is a day to allow people from social housing to have their pets access free vet services and for their owners to socialise with their neighbours and pets.
On Friday night I was honoured to represent at Alexandra Basketball Junior Presentation to announce that would provide $250k to repair the non for profit Alexandria Basketball stadium roof.
Through the week I meet a delegation from the bidding team for Bangkok World Pride and talk to them about how the city supported Sydney World Pride. Wishing Bangkok all the best with their bid.
I love talking about waste - and this week I met with the team who are working with Sydney Hyatt Regency which is every day feeding 500kilos of food waste to black soldier fly larvae in their loading dock. The larvae insect manure is turned into agriculture fertiliser and the larvae, high in protein, is turned into food for animals. Another great initiative dealing with food waste.

The Local Government elections are coming up on September 14. I am pleased to announce that I am running for Council again as part of the formidable Independent Team.
My favourite aspect of being a Councillor is working with the community; listening to what you love about our streets and neighbourhoods, and what we could make better for all residents and businesses.
LGBTIQA+ issues are a passion of mine and I am looking forward to the City’s continued revitalisation of Oxford Street. Many other councillors only talk down Oxford Street (seriously, one Councillor alone has had 10 media stories this year talking negatively about the rainbow hood!) — but there is so much to be excited about. Along with the incredible cycleway, more creative space, the City’s new Social and Cultural Place strategy, there is also the Progressive Pride crossing coming soon to . We are on the cusp of something big in this precinct.
Team Clover is about having a long-term vision and delivering it. We do the work, striving for excellence from idea to final delivery, and don’t just whinge about the negatives without offering any proper solutions.
If I am elected again as a Councillor, I want to continue my work looking at how we can create systemic behavioural change and help reduce our dependence on landfill. From blister packs, to food waste, to textile waste - we need to dispose of our waste responsibly and strive for circularity.
I hope I can have your support to keep Sydney independent, progressive and community led and to keep control away from the three major parties and their vested interests.
The past 16 months have been incredible and there is NO WAY I could have achieved what I have without the dynamic Maggie Scardifield
While I might be out in front and Maggie behind the scenes, there is no doubting WE ARE A TEAM.
Thank you Maggie - let’s hope we get to do this together on the other side of the election and also enjoy a few more burgers along the way.
Life is not all election campaigning - there is the side hustle of PR and community work to do too.
It was an honour to launch Festival of Repairs. This is an event I love to attend - we need to rethink what we toss out and start thinking Reuse, Repair and Recycle
I attended the farewell at Parliament House of the CEO Nicholas Parkhill. Nicholas has dedicated 18 years to people in NSW living with HIV and what a legacy he is leaving.
A fun filled night is always had at monthly event called Fruits. There is always new q***r business owners to meet and discuss and learn about their unique business expertise.
On Sunday I was part of a panel about how to address the onslaught of Fast Fashion. This was staged as part of The Festival of Repairs and moderated by the War in Waste’s
These two !!! ❤️
Got to meet the Redfern legend that is Hazem Sedda today with while out doorknocking
Another great afternoon out on the streets doorknocking. This time in Darlinghurst and once again the response was encouraging with people saying that want vision and stability in local council.
Add to your calendar - Saturday 14th September - Election Day
Last week I caught up with the team from run by the dynamic
The Haymarket Foundation is a homelessness service and their strength is in working with people that many services don’t have capacity to support. Those who have co-occurring mental illness, alcohol and other drug issues and frequently, lifelong trauma and disability.
have been operating for over 50 years and provide housing with 28 beds, 4 of which are dedicated to HIV residents. They provide on onsite doctor or health service along with weekly dental and mental health services. They are also one of the few homelessness organisations that are non-secular.
They additional run 4 houses across Sydney which can accommodated 18 male residents. Many of the residents come from drug court instead of going to prison and all commit to a recovery process to rebuild their lives. This service has a 70% success rate.
They are also supported by three of my favourite local angels
Let me start by saying I am a HUGE fan of cycling. Though many of us are frustrated with the share bike situation.
So it is time for everyone to channel that frustration to the NSW Govt as they are asking for submissions towards a NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into the use of e-scooters, e-bikes and related emobility options. I have submitted my thoughts.
You can find the link here https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/committees/inquiries/Pages/inquiry-details.aspx?pk=3052 -members then click on submissions.
Some suggestions I have made include
Regulate share bikes to allow councils to enforce the rules
Establish a licence for share bike companies to operate in NSW
Cap the number of share bike operators in an area
Limit the amount of share bikes a company can distribute in LGAs across NSW
Create designated on-road pick up and drop off zones
Penalties for not leaving the share bike in a designated zone
Speed limits for ebikes including share bikes
Bike safety standards and disposal requirements for operators
This week kicked off with seeing all the new garden fencing in Macleay Street Potts Point. This area was upgraded a few years ago though people kept walking over garden beds and it was obvious that fencing was needed and city staff have been wonderful working with me to make this happen.
At Town Hall and acknowledged the 1000’s of volunteers that dedicate their time to helping organisations like Meals on Wheels, Justice of the Peace, New Year’s Eve, Sydney Ambassadors at Circular Quay, Community Gardens and the City’s Archive. Without the many hours of free time volunteers give, these organisations and services would simply not be available.
I visited the Foster House in Surry Hills to better understand the service that is provide to the dozens of men who call this place home. It is a much needed stepping stone, to help many of these men who have fallen on tough times, the opportunity to get back on their feet.
Laughter was had at the Trivia Night with all proceeds going to help people living with HIV. For the record, while fun was had we soon realised the many questions were above our pay grade !
It would not be a Saturday without doorknocking. The election campaign is off and running and the response from Glebe locals was positive with many saying that what they want is stability in government, and there is no one better placed than Team Clover to deliver that.
Today I visited the Surry Hills Inner City Men’s Accommodation Foster House where I met the NSW Homelessness Manager Kirstie Clifton.
Kirstie and I met at the recent launch of the report on Rough Sleepers in NSW by and she invited me to visit Foster House and to see the work that the Salvation Army is doing.
There is an onsite doctor, caseworkers, counsellors and I also heard incredible stories of men who had fallen on tough times who just need a leg up to get back to work and to start to rebuild their lives. They also work with 2 of my favourite organisations and
Foster House is one of 4 Salvation Army accommodations in Surry Hills. There are three other accommodations for youth, women and children and clients with alcohol and other drug dependencies.
are one of many organisations that work to help vulnerable Aussies in and around our city. INCREDIBLE WORK
On the weekend I found a wet and dirty blanket on the street. I knew if I left it there it would end up in landfill.
It was 100% wool so I took it home and washed and dried it and today I dropped it in to Annabel who works there loved it and said it will either be sold in the shop or it will be given to someone who needs some extra warmth this winter
is looking for any warm clothing and blankets. So have a look through your wardrobe and find ONE or TWO great sweaters, puffers or a rug and drop it in to them and help someone else this winter
Yet another full week. I represented the Lord Mayor for the Australia’s Rainbow Lunch in celebrating the LGBTQIA+ perinatal community and acknowledging Pride Month. It was a moving and informative event, exploring the unique challenges that LGBTQIA+ parents face during the perinatal period.
Wednesday night I host OUT LOUD at Sydney Town Hall bringing together 6 incredible speakers o tell their stories based on the theme of PRIDE Month Compassion and Courage. What a night it was!
I attended the launch of The Pop-Up Shop which was staged over the weekend. 18,000 units of pre loved and brand new clothing were sold with all proceeds going to to support Emergency Services, Migration Support and International Programs both locally and internationally
On the upcoming Naidoc Week I was asked to represent for the Gawura and St Andrew’s Cathedral School assembly to celebrate NAIDOC Week.It was an opportunity to showcase their students and how First Nations’ culture is woven into their everyday. This year’s theme is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud
It is election season and Team Clover has started our doprknocking campaign. This is how I fell in love with politics. If you would like to join us, it is a great way to see the city, the streets and the communities, please send me a DM.
On Sunday I was invited as a guest on radio program with What a wonderful time I had discussion fashion, sustainability, and local politics and share bikes. Thank you for a warm and enjoyable experience.
And doorknocking has started for in Surry Hills today. Local elections 14th September. Such a great response from residents.
This week I hosted OUT LOUD, an intimate storytelling event at Town Hall to celebrate . Six speakers from across the LGBTIQA+ spectrum shared stories on the Pride Month theme of Courage and Compassion. It was such a powerful evening of listening and sharing.
Wow, wow, wow. Last night’s OUT LOUD event at Town Hall was certainly a highlight of my time as a councillor. To be in the room with such a fantastic group of activists and advocates, creatives and tastemakers, leaders and all-out legends from the Sydney LGBTIQA+ community was something very special.
But even more special, was holding space for, and listening to the stories of Steve Spencer (), Emily Saunders (, ), Jessica Bouyamourn (), Dr Eloise Brook (), Mon Schafter ( ***r) and David Meagher ().
I think there was laughter and tears in equal measure! I can’t wait for the next iteration. thank you to Deep Field Photography for capturing the wonderful photos
What a week it has been.
It is always a fun night at with drinks, socialising and hearing some impressive presentations from some of their business members. I also caught up with the president Jarrod Lomas and one of the team from Angelo Baronessa .real.angelo
I attended the commencement of A fashion and apparel industry led organisation to encourage a re-think in the way we choose, enjoy and recycle clothing in Australia. To date, 62 companies have signed up and will contribute 4 cents from every garment - whether they are made in Australia or off shore.
I caught up with the program managers in Surry Hills to hear about the evolving programs that they offer for after-school care for students in the inner city.
On a cold Friday night I attended the annual Homeless Person’s Memorial Service in Martin Place hosted by to remember the hundred’s of Australians who die on our streets every year. Dominic Sullivan, the Foundation Director said to me, “if this was happening in Nursing Homes there would be a Royal Commission”. Payce Foundation is incredible organisation who work with charities who focus on addiction. DV, Homelessness and Youth at Risk.
An organisation called First Mardi Gras held an online meeting for 78ers from across Australia to hear some of the 78ers talk about their personal experiences 46 years ago, when what started as a peaceful event for gay liberation turned swiftly in to a riot when NSW police cornered, arrested and threw attendees in the Darlo Police Station. They have published a book called “Voices from 1978” and I highly recommend it and it can be bought
and the week rounded out with the Aurora Mirror Ball celebrating 25 years of I joined and many others at Sydney Town Hall and funds were raised to ensure Aurora continue to support LGBTQIA+ community organisations working at a grassroots level. To date, Aurora has disbursed almost $2million into the LGBTIQ+ community.
What a great time last night at the annual at Sydney Town Hall
Celebrating 25 years, Aurora was established by a group of friends who identified a gap in funding support for the smallest LGBTQIA+ community organisations working at a grassroots level.
In Australia only 5 cents from every $100 of philanthropic funding is received by LGBTIQ+ organisations. Though to date, Aurora has disbursed almost $2million into the LGBTIQ+ community.
I attended the commencement of A fashion and apparel industry led initially by the which is now a stand alone not-for-profit organisation.
Quite simply, fashion and apparel businesses who sign up to support Seamless will contribute 4 cents from every garment - whether they are made in Australia or off shore.
To date, 62 companies have signed up such as , , , , , , , , ,
All funds will go towards supporting the industry to create better design and business models, closing the loop on circularity, and my favourite, changing consumer behaviour towards fashion waste.
We must all start transforming the way we choose, enjoy and recycle clothing in Australia.
I call on every fashion brand to sign up, it is your responsibility as global businesses, for the environment and for future generations.
Also a big shout out to for being a leader in ensuring excess fashion does not go to waste.
Please meet Team Clover 2024 💚🍀
What an amazing team we have and I am excited to run once again for reelection this September
We are a team of community minded, progressive independents consisting of .pjofficial
Nobody chooses to be homeless
This morning I attended and also represented for the launch of report “Sleeping Rough in Sydney”.
Thank you .paul for this report and to for being there to launch it.
Housing supply is a huge issue for people wanting to rent or buy, we hear about that a lot. What is not being addressed is social housing, crisis accommodation, transitional housing - this needs to be as much of a priority so that people sleeping rough, women fleeing DV, refugees, and LGBT youth being forced to leave home have a place to go.
Homelessness is not a local govt responsibility though the CoS has a dedicated homeless unit that spends $2million a year. This team knows where every rough sleeper is in the city and they check-in frequently for health, clothing and food requirements and also to work with housing services to transition people into housing.
Each of us have the power to collectively end homelessness. Every charity needs volunteers - can you give your time? Or please email your state MP and demand they find and support the solutions.
Discovering .ok in between films at
And the marathon starts 12 days and 31 movies with my cinematic partner . Last night opened with Midnight Oil The Hardest Line - what a great documentary to start the festival.
This week kicked off with announcing she will be running at the next local government elections in September and I am of course throwing my hat back in the ring. While Sydney has been transformed over the past 20 years, there is still so much work to be done.
I was honoured to represent at the launch of , an initiative of the Oxford St Pride Business Charter which represents all venues in the Oxford Street precinct taking a united stand against homophobia and transphobia. These highly visible pride vests will be worn by all security staff across the precinct.
This week I met up with the largest peer-led and run representative body of all people living with HIV in Australia. promote a positive image of people living with and affected by HIV with the aim of eliminating prejudice, isolation, stigma and discrimination.
On the eve of PRIDE Month, the updated crossing outside Kinselas was revealed and this now incorporates the more inclusive Progressive Pride design - along with the upgrade to the rainbow path in Prince Alfred Park.
Thursday night was the setting for the launch of PRIDE Month celebrating the history, resilience and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community. This year’s theme is all about Compassion and Courage.
Starting this Wednesday is the For my 14th year, I am ready for 12 nights and 30 movies though there are cinemas rights across the city involved - check it all out.
