Can other drugs/medication impact your treatment cycle?
They can! Medication such as clexane, aspirin, steroids and some types of herbs can interfere with your treatment cycle. It is vital that before you take anything suggested to you, you speak to your Connect IVF fertility specialist so there is no risk to your IVF cycle.
Are s***m extraordinary swimmers?
They are actually as a matter of fact NOT!
We tend to visualise a “finishing line” with millions of s***m racing to get there, however, the actual route a s***m takes is much more like an obstacle course. In fact, the s***m rarely swim in a straight line!

S***m are tiny! The average s***m with normal morphology is approximately 0.05mm long - In fact, if you took all the s***m from a male with normal s***m concentration, you could put all the s***m in a straight line and this could stretch to a few kilometres long!
Did you know that an average ej*******on contains around 100-200 million s***m.
Starting a family shouldn't come at a high cost. Connect IVF is proud to be Sydney's most affordable IVF clinic. For more information, contact us on 1800 953 675 or visit our website at https://connectivf.com.au/ - Link in bio.
Did you know that for s***m to reach the egg, they need to travel from the cervix through the womb to the fallopian tubes. To scale, that's the equivalent of a human swimming 100 lengths of an Olympic swimming pool!
Will my embryo fall out?
Your little embryo cannot "fall out". The nurses will monitor the lining of your uterus before your transfer to ensure your body has created a thick, sticky environment for your embryo. As your uterus is a muscular organ, that will naturally stay contracted and once your little embryo has been transferred back into your uterus, it will not have room to move freely or "fall out". If you imagine a poppy seed between two slices of bread with jam, it may give you the reassurance you need.
Did you know that the s***m’s head contains special enzyme? The enzymes help to digest the tiny cells surrounding the egg so that the s***m can get inside.
“Even miracles take a little time.” — Fairy Godmother, Cinderella
When an egg is released from the o***y, it is surrounded by a protective layer of tiny cells called corona radiata, which translates to “Crown with Rays”. These cells supply the egg with support and proteins for nourishment.
What can I do after my Embryo Transfer?
An embryo transfer is a relatively simple procedure and there is nothing you need to do that is out of the ordinary. Once the embryo has been transferred back into your uterus, it is perfectly safe to go to the bathroom – the embryo will not fall out! Think of your embryo as a little poppy seed stuck in a jam sandwich.
If you are an active person, we would generally recommend that you avoid any high impact exercise, heavy lifting and try to keep your heart rate below 130 beats per minute. Normal daily activities including swimming, light jogging and walking are perfectly safe.
We would suggest avoiding any activity that may increase your body temperature such as saunas and hot baths and refrain from drinking alcohol and smoking to ensure you’re giving yourself the best chance possible.
The human egg is larger than any other cell in the human body! A red blood cell is approximately 8um in size whereas the human egg is around 100um in size – In fact, the human egg can actually be observed with the naked human eye.

Did you know that boxers are better than briefs?
Tighter underwear can increase scrotal temperature which can lead to higher DNA fragmentation and poor fertility in males.
Why do I need a full bladder for my embryo transfer?
Having a full bladder helps to push your uterus into a straighter and more accessible position and it makes the embryo transfer procedure a lot easier.
What is more important when it comes to my eggs? Quality or quantity?
This is a question we are asked quite often when it comes to IVF success rates. The quality of your eggs and s***m are both equally important when planning a pregnancy and there have been a number of studies to support this. Modifying your lifestyle by improving your diet, reducing the amount of caffeine you consume, limiting your alcohol intake and quitting smoking can have a positive impact on your fertility and improve your chances of a successful pregnancy.
When it comes to achieving a successful pregnancy, it only takes one little s***m and one egg to create a healthy baby.
A fun fact: Louise Brown’s mother had a single egg retrieved from her only mature follicle and nine months later, the world welcomed its first IVF baby.
True or False: S***m are extraordinary swimmers
FALSE: Believe it or not, this is a common misconception. Most people will envisage a race, with millions of s***m racing to the finishing line, when in actual fact, the route is more like an obstacle course with the s***m rarely swimming in a straight line.
