Performing with Soulfood at Sydney Town Hall tonight. Two solo numbers plus a BIG sing with a mass choir, orchestra and yes, that bloody big organ!

The end of another Can Too squad. Now for the summer ocean swim season…..

The plan was a lovely afternoon swim out from Shelly Beach, followed by a happy hour cocktail at the boat shed. 15 minutes into the swim, the JetSki arrived (again) and ordered us out of the water, thanks bull shark. And then we were too early for happy hour. But a glass of Prosecco in the sun at one of the most beautiful places on earth wasn’t bad compensation.

There was a JetSki in the water as I swam around the point. That’s always bad. By the time I’d swam like the clappers through murky, choppy water to the beach, the shark signs were up and the lifeguards were ordering everyone out. Thank goodness I wasn’t one of the stragglers this morning (although they did get a free ride on the back of the JetSki!)

Campaigning at the Manly Jazz Festival today. I’m loving listening to the undecided voters - so many good questions and valid concerns. It’s a pleasure to engage in good natured conversations about something so important.

OCTOPUS! I’m always playing ocean critter Bingo when I swim and today I found one of the missing beasties on my ‘card’. She was a big, beautiful and brave octopus too! Spotted lurking under a rock shelf, she came right out into the open and had a wander about the sandy floor in the shallows near Shelly Beach. We were also treated to a wobbegong, fiddler ray and several port Jackson sharks ❤️🦈🐙🐠

Made it to the beach! After a MASSIVE day of performing with (more of that later!) I didn’t think I’d make it this morning, but so glad I did! Port Jackson sharks and big beautiful giant cuttlefish’s what a morning! Now for a cup of tea and almost definitely an afternoon nap 😴

Turtle time 🐢 🐢🐢 We finally swam with a turtle off the Bower this morning . And what a big, beautiful beastie she was! Plus we spotted a giant cuttlefish, a big wobbegong and several Port Jackson sharks of different sizes. Best morning ever!! 🐢🦈❤️🦈🐢🏊‍♀️

There are definitely water spirits here…

I just did a crazy fabulous, terrifying, amazing thing! There was more swell than we have seen in weeks at Manly today. I am frightened of the surf, and so I got into the water around the corner where it’s flatter. On the way back, I was persuaded by my swimming buddies to swim back to the beach through the swell. Classic case of peer pressure! Right up until the last minute, I didn’t think I would do it. When I saw the big sets coming in, I was convinced I would never get back to the beach. But I kept my nerve and trusted the person who was swimming with me, and somehow I manage to get in safe, sound and have not been able to wipe the smile off my face ever since!

I’m under there somewhere…

It’s the coldest morning in Sydney I can remember. My Skoda DINGED and showed me a snowflake icon ❄️ 😳. Did I get in the water at 7am…? Yes, but I took the easy option - the outdoor pool at Manly is heated 🥶

This is going to be an AWESOME show! A full weekend rehearsal for Soulfood At The Movies, polishing music and choreography. Come and see us at the ARA Theatre, Darling Harbour, Sydney 12 August - 2 shows only!!

I usually wait till after sunrise before getting in the ocean, but here in Terrigal, I have been getting in a few moments before dawn. I am now obsessed with watching the sunrise from the water. It’s an incredible experience!

Brekkie at Manly, lunch in Terrigal. It’s the perfect beach day. But things get serious tomorrow as Soulfood starts a weekend long rehearsal up here on the Central Coast - Choir Camp!!

What it looks like getting into the ocean at dawn in midwinter. How could you NOT?? Little sharks, blue groupers and rays. 15.9 degrees in the water, 8 degrees air temp.

And ANOTHER perfect sunrise swim! BONUS port jackson shark sightings 🦈 and lots of rays. More than compensated for a collision with an orange jelly 🪼(fortunately not the stinging end!) I thought those buggers had gone for the season!?

I haven’t been doing my usual 7am swim for a few weeks - because it’s actually dark at that time of the morning in mid winter! But the sun came up at 6.59am this morning so we entered the water as the first rays flowed. Flat and calm as a lake and not a breath of wind. Lovely rays of all kinds scooting around
