It makes absolutely no sense for this Government to sack an additional 700 TAFE staff in the middle of a recession and pandemic. TAFE is way too important; the attack on TAFE must stop. CPSU - Community and Public Sector Union NSW Teachers Federation
"Absolutely disgraceful move from the NSW Government and local member Michael Johnsen should be ashamed. Selling a TAFE campus is not the answer to creating regional jobs," said Stewart Little, CPSU NSW State Secretary.
Under state legislation, the purpose of TAFE NSW is to provide technical and further education that meets workforce and industry demands as well as ensuring access to disadvantaged students. TAFE's commercial competitors in the private training sector are not required to fulfil any social objectives.
Scathing review reveals TAFE's failure to meet cost savings The NSW Auditor‑General has found the merging of 10 separate TAFE institutes into one failed to deliver promised savings.

Isabella is a Library Technician with TAFE NSW.
TAFE NSW Library Technicians are essential to providing support for TAFE students and teaching staff in the full utilisation of library services, resources and facilities. This is a direct support role without which TAFE campuses would cease to function.
She has worked at Library Resource Management Services for 20 years and said, "TAFE’s role is important post COVID-19 in training the future workers of this State, but to do that TAFE NSW needs the resources and skilled staff to do the job effectively."

Training for healthcare workers is about to go virtual for the first time as part of a new partnership between industry, TAFE and NSW Health.
Learning how to take a blood test will no longer need to be done in a real health setting. Instead, trainees including doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and Indigenous health workers will be able to learn the procedure while fully immersed in a virtual hospital, including sound effects such as blipping machines.
NSW to trial its world-first virtual healthcare training technology TAFE NSW has partnered with NSW Health and industry to develop a virtual reality method for training health professionals in how to perform blood tests.
Vocational education and training leaders are concerned that a new scheme to support 100,000 trainees and apprentices risks being rorted by some employers and training organisations that use traineeships to subsidise existing employees.
Vocational training leaders fear new subsidy at risk of being rorted Employer groups and vocational training leaders warn new subsidies for apprentices and trainees should not be taken up by existing workers.

Rebuild Our TAFE
In a “deliberate and subversive assault on the career aspirations of hundreds of thousands of young people”, the NSW Liberal/National government has “inflicted savage cuts to staff and courses” and cut over $130 million from TAFE NSW since 2014, Treasury documents show, with a further $8.8 million in cuts budgeted for 2018/2019.
The number of government-funded vocational students in NSW, which includes those enrolled at TAFE, declined by 6.8 per cent between 2016 and 2017, according to the latest data published by National Centre for Vocational Education Research.
TAFE NSW is being dismantled by Gladys Berejiklian and her ministers. This is in keeping with their ideology, that the government should not compete with the for-profit, private sector.
We feel differently. Hopefully you do too. It’s time to REBUILD OUR TAFE
