LEARNING UPHOLSTERY SKILLS
Learning upholstery can be tough, many people believe it is an easy skill and anyone can do it. The fact is, the skills of upholstery are not low or semi skills, they are generally semi to high skills and take many years to perfect.
Anyone CAN do it, however many don't do it as well as the Master Craftsman (the word craftsman obviously includes all genders).
There are many key factors to what makes a person better at what they do, I believe passion would be at the forefront of success.
I have a couple of images here, one being from a Facebook site post of a group that I follow and the other being a response, by me, to the person's post on that group.
You may find it an interesting read.
Upholstery is, at times, said to be a dying art.
I don't believe so however there is definitely challenges to the future of the trade and the skills.
I hope, in the future, upholstery will keep the high quality skills to make gorgeous furniture and other items to be enjoyed by many and high standard pieces to be curated for people in the future to inspire them into stepping outside their normal boundaries of their skills.
The flooding of lower quality items out there today does create problems for the retention of high quality skills of tradespeople from the past, of the present and in the future.
Keep pushing high skills like our ancestors did.

The latest creation by Blake K..
Blake is progressing excellently through the Certificate III in Upholstery at TAFE NSW Upholstery .
Blake's leather Tub Chair has been suitably covered in a beautiful aniline leather.
Bella completed her traditional work on this antique reproduction ottoman frame.
All done by hand with jute webbing, coil springs, lacings, bridles, coconut fibre, flock, stitched edging, blind stitching, stuffing stitches, leather, singular close studding....
This is many hours work and a great achievement by Bella...
