🚨🚨 FIELD DAY 🚨🚨
Today Nothern Beaches Headquarters 1 with its crew of 5 participated in the Hornsby / Ku-Ring-Gai Field Day. We participated in 8 events over 4 hours with 7 other brigades within the Hornsby / Ku-Ring-Gai district. It was a fun and exciting day had by all! Great to see the different resources other districts have available to them!
Well done to the crew and a big thank you to the Hornsby District for hosting.
On Behalf of the Northern Beaches Headquarters Brigade, we would like to Congratulate former member, Viki Campbell on being appointed to the role of Director of State Operations and to the rank of Assistant Commissioner within the NSW Rural Fire Service.
Viki Started her NSWRFS Volunteer career with the then Warringah Headquarters Bushfire Brigade (Now Northern Beaches Headquarters Brigade) back in 1990 and still to this day, acts as a role model to members throughout NSW.
We wish you good luck on your new position!
Did you know that the RFS has a stall at the Sydney Royal Easter Show? If you're visiting, stop by our stall in the home and lifestyle pavilion. You can jump in a cat 9 striker or play on a nozzle... and of course we have plenty of those famous red helmets!
Over the last 2 days, Northern Beaches Headquarters has been kept very busy providing assistance to local Hazard Reduction Operations around the Northern Beaches District.
On Wednesday we provided 10 members and our Category 1 Bushfire tanker, both day and night, to assist NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service with a large hazard reduction around the Terrey Hills/Ingleside area.
On Thursday we undertook the Pistol Club Hazard Reduction next to St Ives Showground.
Over the course of the day we provided 12 members including 1 member from NSW Rural Fire Service Northern Beaches District Communications Brigade, Crewing our Cat 1 Bushfire Tanker, Cat 6 Bulk Tanker, Bulk Water carrier, as well as crewed multiple Incident Management positions to successfully complete this HR, whilst also providing our Cat 1 and 6 for evening patrols of the fire ground throughout the night.
A BIG shoutout to all the local and out of area crews who have assisted Northern Beaches Rural Fire District over the last few days with implementing crucial Hazard reduction burns within the district!

A big congratulations to FF Joel on obtaining his heavy ridgid truck licence in our 22.5t, category 13 bulk water carrier on Wednesday.
Over the last few months he has been working tirelessly with our driver training team completing countless hours towards his assessment.
A massive congratulations to Alan Brett AFSM & Tony Jones AFSM on over 100 years of combined service (or 50 years individually, but 100 is so much more impressive) to the Northern Beaches Headquarters Brigade. To put this in comparison, the brigade turns 60 NEXT year.. thanks AB & TJ. Taken with former Captain Luke Robinson and current Captain Paul Britton.
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
Tomorrow, Thursday 8th February RFS Remote Area Firefighting crews will be conducting aviation training exercises around the Manly Dam area.
This will enable our crews to undertake important training for fighting fires.
The training will commence approx. from 7am Thursday morning to 4pm out of the David Thomas Reserve. So please don’t be alarmed with aircraft flying at low levels.

Tonight we were joined by NSW RFS - Terrey Hills Brigade for some extinguisher training, followed by everyone's favourite - the gas prop! It was great to see old and new members alike having a go and refreshing their skills.
Big thanks to Covenant Christian School Sydney for donating multiple fire extinguishers for our training!
Who says training can't come with little more fun than usual? Our Saturday duty crew got out on Pittwater with our friends at West Pittwater Brigade to see how crews fight fires out on the water. It wouldn't be a duty crew without the wildlife, so we paid a visit to the Barrenjoey Long Nose Fur Seals too 🦭
Over the last few days, 2 members from HQ along with members from Tumbledown Dick Rural Fire Brigade & Camden West Rural Fire Brigade have been manning Belrose 1c as part of a NSW RFS Greater Sydney Area Command strike team, deployed to the Willi Willi fire in the Kempsey Area.
The crews are due to return on Friday, and we wish them all the best for their last day on the fire ground tomorrow.

FRNSW with the assistance of RFS crews will conduct a hazard reduction burn tomorrow, Friday 13 October at Allambie Heights.
The 11ha burn will commence tomorrow morning and be completed across the day.
A helicopter will be in the area assisting firefighters on the ground.
Here are some tips to stay safe during hazard reduction burning.
- Monitor the NSW RFS hazard reduction page for information about planned burns and smoke advisories in your area.
- Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from entering your home.
- Remove washing from clotheslines.
- Ensure pets have a protected area.
- If you’re driving through a smoky area, slow down, keep your windows up and turn your headlights on.
- Don’t call Triple Zero just to report that it’s smokey. Save Triple Zero for emergencies.
Smoke from the burn is likely to settle across areas close to the burn.
Smoke from hazard reductions can affect some people more than others.
If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice.
Asthma sufferers need to follow their Asthma Action Plan and take their relieving medication where necessary. If symptoms get worse seek medical advice.
Big congratulations to our two new CABA wearers, Deputy Captains Roach and Milgate who passed their assessment today.

A second total fire ban (TOBAN) has been declared for Greater Sydney today due to extreme fire danger conditions. While we may have crews ready to respond, consider your threshold for leaving early. If you are unprepared and have not established a bushfire survival plan, the fire danger rating can be a good prompt to pack your go bag or visit friends in a more urban area.
🟧 EXTREME FIRE DANGER RISK 🟧
The fire danger for the Northern Beaches tomorrow is EXTREME and a Total Fire Ban is once again in force. During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire. Now is the time to revisit your bushfire survival plan, and be ready. Visit myfireplan.com.au to find out how.
A TOBAN has been declared for Tuesday 19th of September. Please don't light any fires today, call in any smoke sightings and make sure you have set up a watch zone on Hazards Near Me.
