π₯GET READY WEEKENDπ
Northern Beaches Comms are out & about today supporting some of our brigades with their Open Days.
Find us at:
NSW RFS - Terrey Hills Brigade with Warringah / Pittwater Headquarters Rural Fire Brigade at Cnr Booralie Rd & Yulong Ave, Terrey Hills until 3pm
AND
Belrose Rural Fire Brigade 207A Forest Way, Belrose until 2pm
Come on down and say hello!
A large hazard reduction burn is programmed for the coming days in the Ku-ring-gai National Park north of Terrey Hills.
The 387ha burn will be conducted by the National Parks and Wildlife Service with the assitance on RFS firefighters.
Traffic along General San Martin Drive will be affected.
Smoke from the burn is expected to settle across the Northern Beaches over the coming days.
Here are some tips to stay safe during hazard reduction burning.
- Monitor the NSW RFS hazard reduction page for information about planned burns and smoke advisories in your area.
- Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from entering your home.
- Remove washing from clotheslines.
- Ensure pets have a protected area.
- If youβre driving through a smoky area, slow down, keep your windows up and turn your headlights on.
- Donβt call Triple Zero just to report that itβs smokey. Save Triple Zero for emergencies.
Smoke from a hazard reduction burn at Quarry Rd in Dural is currently blowing across the Beaches.
Just a reminder to only call Triple Zero (000) is you see an unattended fire not just because you can smell smoke.
Southerly winds tomorrow and possible showers will clear any residual smoke.

Thanks to the District Staff, Group Officers, Life Members, invited guests and brigade members who attended our AGM on Saturday
Congratulations to Jo & Sue who received the Captain's Award at our AGM yesterday.
Both Jo & Sue were recognised for their consistently significant contributions to the brigade.
Yesterday the Brigade held our 2023 Annual General Meeting. Congratulations to Marisa on re-election as Captain, Jodi on re-election as President, and Jamie on election as Senior Deputy Captain.
We would like to acknowledge all of our position holders for the 2022-23 brigade year, with a special shout-out to Sue J who is standing down after 30 years of service as an Officer with the brigade.
Congratulations to all elected in their various positions yesterday. We look forward to working with this great team in the new brigade year.
UPDATE: Unfortunately due to some early morning rain this burn needed to be postponed. Firefighters will try to undertake the burn once more favourable conditions return.
Firefighters will be looking to take advantage of favourable weather this week to conduct a large hazard reduction burn in the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park.
Firefighters from the NPWS and NSWRFS will begin the 380ha burn on Thursday with the operation expected to continue until Saturday. It will extend along General San Martin Drive between Akuna Bay and Mccarrs Creek Rd
Light north westerly winds are forecast on Thursday which will likely push the smoke east towards the coast. Overnight smoke may be trapped at lower levels before clearing across the day.
Rain is forecast from Sunday through the early part of next week. This may see futher burns postponed.
Hazard reduction burns are undertaken to remove βfuelβ (leaves and twigs) from the forest floor. They help reduce the intensity of a bush fire if one was to occur.
We thank the community for their understanding as fire agencies look to catch up on this important work after two very wet years.
While we will be doing all we can to prepare for the next fire season, homeowners should also consider their level of preparedness.
Itβs on all of us to Live Bush Fire Ready.

This morning members of the Brigade attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Peace Park, Oxford Falls hosted by Beacon Hill Rural Fire Brigade.
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
We will remember them.
Lest We Forget

If you've ever considered joining the NSW RFS, don't forget we have several support roles including communications, catering and support brigades. For more information visit the website here: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/volunteer
