🚨 W**d Alert: Corky Passionfruit
Meet the corky passionfruit (Passiflora suberosa), a tricky vine that’s been spreading across Willoughby. Keep an eye out for this one—it’s not your regular passionfruit!
🌱 What to Look For:
Stems: Corky bark on older stems, with a purplish tinge before they mature.
Leaves: Deeply lobed with pointed tips, but sometimes without lobes.
Flowers: Tiny, pale green, and unique—no petals!
Fruit: Small, round, and turns purple-black when ripe.
🍃 Important Note: The fruit is poisonous, even when ripe, so avoid snacking while you pull this w**d!
🌧️ Best Removal Tips: Hand-pull this vine after rain when the soil is moist. Be careful not to break the stem above the roots—use a trowel if needed.
Stay vigilant, and let's keep our bushland healthy! 🌿

🌿 Floating Landcare Adventure to Mackerel Beach 🛥️
What a perfect day it was for our Willoughby Bushcare volunteers! A group of six hopped on the bus, then set sail across Pittwater to the beautiful and secluded Mackerel Beach. They joined forces with volunteers from NPWS and the local Mackerel Beach Bushcare group for a day of w**ding and conservation.
Armed with tree poppers and determination, they tackled three main w**ds: cobblers pegs, cassia, and the tricky green cestrum. By the end of the day, they removed 19 bags full of w**d seeds—making a real difference in protecting this unique area!
A huge thank you to Bettina from NPWS, the Mackerel Beach Bushcare group, and the boat driver Brett for making this Floating Landcare day such a success. 🌱💪

🚨 Exciting News!🚨
Last month, Council’s Natural Assets Officer got creative by using reading glass lenses over wildlife cameras to get up-close and personal with our local fauna! 📸🦘 After a month of recording, he retrieved the cameras and were thrilled with the results. Highlights included a Long-nosed Bandicoot🐾 , a Swamp Wallaby joey 🦘, a White-browed Scrub-wren🐦 , and a female Variegated Fairy-wren🐦 . Thanks to this simple modification, we captured sharper details of our native wildlife, things we rarely see at such close range!
With these promising results, our bushland team have a new method for taking even closer photos and videos of our cute critters! 🐨 📸
