The opportunity for high school students to witness the young refugee cast share their stories about the reality of why they came to Australia is second to none, and the benefits for students flow both ways.

“The warm and heartfelt responses our audiences give to our performers make our cast, their families, and other refugees in the audience, feel valued, empowered and above all, welcome in their new country.” - Treehouse Theatre

We're very excited to share our next Seymour Season show: Wild Thing Production's Seventeen 🤙

Through a fog of stolen alcohol, six teenagers gather late at night on the last day of school to share the moment in their lives when the past gives way to an uncertain future. But in a revelatory theatrical twist, all roles are performed by older actors who were seventeen many years ago, bringing the experience of age to the dreams of hopeful youths.

Premiering at Belvoir almost 10 years ago and produced to great acclaim in the UK at the Lyric Hammersmith, this is Seventeen’s first major Sydney revival right here at Seymour.

Our Story

OUR HISTORY

Back in 1966, Sydney businessman and philanthropist Everest Reginald York Seymour left a significant bequest for, ‘…the construction of a building to serve as a centre for the cultivation, education and performance of musical and dramatic arts…’

The University of Sydney became the trustee of this bequest, and the Seymour Centre was opened in 1975 on the main Darlington campus.

Designed by Allen Jack+Cottier and refurbished in 2000 by Lahz Nimmo Architects, the Seymour has become one of Sydney’s leading cultural hubs.
