Welcome back Sacha, from your amazing European holiday! 🎉
Safe to say we have some serious travel envy!
If you have some spare cash 💰 it may be worth taking advantage of the higher non-concessional (after-tax) contributions cap. From 1 July 2021, the general non concessional cap increased to $110,000 annually (up from $100,000).
👉 These contributions can be a great help if you’ve reached your concessional contributions cap, received an inheritance, or have additional personal savings you would like to put into super. If you are aged 67 or older, however, you need to meet the requirements of the work test or work test exemption.
👉 For those under age 67 (previously age 65) at any time during 2021-22, you may be able to use a bring-forward arrangement to make a contribution of up to $330,000 (three years x $110,000).
👉 To take advantage of the bring-forward rule, your total super balance (TSB) must be under the relevant limit on 30 June of the previous year. Depending on your TSB, your personal contribution limit may be less than $330,000, so it’s a good idea to talk to us before making your contribution.
Speak to our team about how to maximise the return on your spare cash.
A key task for EOFY is maximising your super contributions to boost your retirement savings and take advantage of the available tax benefits.💰 Annual contribution limits for super rose this financial year, so this strategy is even more attractive.
👉 From 1 July 2021, most people’s annual concessional contributions cap increased to $27,500 (up from $25,000). This allows you to contribute a bit extra into your super on a before-tax basis, potentially reducing your taxable income.
👉 If you have any unused concessional contribution amounts from previous financial years and your super balance is less than $500,000, you may be able to “carry forward” these amounts to further top up.
👉 Another strategy is to make a personal contribution for which you claim a tax deduction. These contributions count towards your $27,500 cap and were previously available only to the self-employed. To qualify, you must notify your super fund in writing of your intention to claim and receive acknowledgement.
Speak to our team about how you can boost your retirement savings.
June was a big month in an eventful year for the local and global economy, with inflation and interest rates continuing to dominate.👀
With inflation sitting at 5.1% in Australia, cost of living pressure is mounting. The Reserve Bank lifted the cash rate to 0.85% in June, with more rises anticipated.
June also saw a global sell-off in shares, with the ASX 200 posting its worst month since March 2020. 📉
👇 Here is a snapshot of market movements from June.

This EOFY it's worth thinking beyond super, to see what else you can do to reduce tax. ✅
Here are a few strategies to consider:
👉 If you’ve been working from home due to COVID-19, you can use the shortcut method to claim 80 cents per hour worked for your running expenses. But make sure you have detailed records of hours worked to substantiate your claim.
👉 You also need to prepare supporting documents to claim work-related expenses such as car, travel, clothing and self-education.
👉 Check whether you qualify for other common expense deductions such as tools, equipment, union fees, the cost of managing your tax affairs, charity donations and income protection premiums.

Earlier this month, Larry Chi attended the Morningstar Investment Conference 2022 at the International Convention Centre Sydney.
The line up of leading portfolio managers was impressive. They discussed their views on where the world and markets currently stand, as well as navigating geopolitics in an uncertain world and positioning portfolios for an inflationary and turbulent environment.
It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces all in one place given the last few years of lockdowns.

On Wednesday, our Founder Sacha Burchgart and Larry Chi attended the Advisor Innovation Summit 2022 at the Hilton Sydney.
With the world seeing such technological advancement in the last 12 months, the financial services ecosystem is transforming. The Adviser Innovation Summit discussed both future threats and opportunities unique to advisers as well as what tools needed to succeed, with speakers exploring the latest trends in fintech, innovation and digital transformation.
Learning about the Metaverse, DeFi, finfluencers and new tech was not only interesting but educational and will help business owners future-proof their business.
As always, it was great to see industry friends and colleagues.
Cost of living pressures, inflation and interest rates were major concerns in the lead-up to the May federal election.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) lifted the cash rate for the first time in over 11 years, following the US Federal Reserve’s decision to lift rates by 50 basis points, the biggest rate hike in 22 years as inflation hit 8.5%.

With EOFY looming, it's important business owners take the time to do their tax return due diligence and speak with their advisor about getting the right tax outcomes for your business.
We've listed 6 top tips to help you achieve this:
👉 Ensure any Super Guarantee and employee salary sacrifice contributions you plan to claim for the 2021-2022 period, are deducted from your account prior to June 30
👉 Consider whether to take advantage of the temporary full expensing regime that allows an immediate 100% write-off of eligible assets purchased and installed in the period 6 October 2020 to 30 June 2022
👉 Ensure your quarterly BAS, GST returns and Single Touch Payroll reports are all up-to-date
👉 Check whether your enterprise meets the eligibility rules for small business capital gains tax (CGT) concessions if you are contemplating winding up or selling your business soon
👉 Consider paying July expense invoices which are under $1,000 in June as these can be claimed without triggering repayment rules
👉 Write off any bad debts so you can claim a tax deduction
We love a good action shot at Burcheart! Sharing insights, ideas, knowledge on all things super and risk tolerance with the upcoming advisers of our future! Thanks TAL Risk Academy for inviting me to share my knowledge.
Earlier this month, several members of the Burcheart team attended the Affinia Conference 2022 in Hamilton Island where they were lucky enough to spend time with some of the best Financial Advisors from around the country, in one of the most beautiful parts of Australia!
Burcheart’s Founder Sacha Burchgart was part of the Adviser Council Meeting preconference where discussions were tailored around all things industry and compliance. Day 1 of the official conference Sacha was able to share with her peers the benefits of strategy first, why its important and sharing the key components of her very detailed strategy paper. Following this Sacha was in the Panel Q & A Session where advisers were able to ask questions about how this looked from a business perspective and how this helps create a financial journey roadmap for clients.
The team spent 3 days in great company, discussing all things regarding the current state of our economic market, aged care and lots more. Thank you to the organisers of the event and some well-regarded industry professionals and speakers such as Matt Church, Dr Louise Mahler, Stephen Prendeville, Jim Stackpool who shared so much of their knowledge. Also a big thank you to the inspiring Kurt Fearnley for closing out the conference.
It was a great few days spent with valuable peers and terrific to have our Director Sacha nominated for Advisor Of The Year once again.
