In a recent publication in the journal SLEEP, our PhD candidate Nicole Liu, supervised by Prof. Padmaja Sankaridurg and A/Prof. Thomas John Naduvilath, presents a systematic review examining the association between myopia and sleep in children. The authors acknowledged the necessity for additional research in this domain, while emphasizing the importance of incorporating sleep hygiene into myopia education.

Professor Brian Layland OAM, the former Chairman and Patron of BHVI, died on Saturday 22 October in Sydney.

Professor Layland made an extraordinary contribution to Australian optometry. His major accomplishments include securing the acceptance of optometric services into the Medicare and Veterans’ Affairs systems and the establishment and development of both Vision Care NSW and the Optometric Vision Research Foundation. A signature achievement thrives to this day: the provision of regular vision care services to Aboriginal communities throughout New South Wales and the Northern Territory.

On behalf of the Board and staff of BHVI and the Brien Holden Foundation, we extend our deepest sympathies to Brian’s family. We remember him with gratitude.
