Wild Conservation
Offering conservation based fauna management and educational consultancy.
It was our 10th Wedding Anniversary today and we spent it in the field working with turtles. It's a great life doing what you love with those you love, and we wouldn't change a thing. Thanks for watching!
An absolutely amazing find, all the way over in Western Australia. Finally ticked this elusive species off our list and got the whole thing on film!
Now that's WILD!
Can you guess what Kane found hiding under here...
Western Swamp Tortoise release. This critically endangered reptile had dwindled to the edge of extinction before conservation efforts to bolster their wild populations took place.
To spend time in the field with Gerald Kuchling, Perth Zoo and the DBCA is something we'll never forget.
Now that's WILD!
We've arrived in Perth. Heading back east now by car to meet up with a turtle research scientist and conservation operations officer.
Not hard to guess the species!
We're off on a great turtle pilgrimage! Very excited to share this latest project with you all
Now that's WILD!
"Where are all the baby turtles?" by Lou Streeting | LS Books "Where are all the baby turtles?" is a delightful children's book written and illustrated by turtle researcher Lou Streeting.
Happy Father's Day Kane! We appreciate all your hard work in the field, but more importantly in the home as a father.
Frog Surveys 🐸
I like turtles.... and books!
Purpose built enclosure. Do not put your fingers in the cage.
Who wants to wake up to this large venomous snake in their bedroom?
We wouldn't mind at WILD but most people say it's not for them.
🐍 Red Bellied Black Snake
Pseudechis porphyriacus
Winter surveys be like
POV your staff came back to base phoneless after surveys, and needed some help returning to the river to find it.
Great spot to get lost I guess!
Skibidi Turtle Rizz
We're turtly enough for the turtle club! We had an absolute blast at Science Week hosted by the Australian Museum with the One Million Turtle team. Deb Bower, James Van D**e and Ricky Spencer were great company while we talked turtles to the public, and each other!
We're looking forward to future projects with team turtle.
Now that's WILD!
Obscure, and cryptic invertebrates can be difficult to identify. These are likely the larvae of one of various species of fungus gnat. They feed on fungi and roots. These were about 3m up a tree schooling on a tree fungus.
The WILD office for a couple of days this week. Go get yourself some food at the cafe, charge it to Studio 3. Enjoy, there's dogs there too.
Such a great thing for WILD to be involved in. We're very lucky to be working with a fantastic team of professionals from around the country.
🌟🩷 As Science Week Wraps Up - Let's Take a Moment to Celebrate all our Turtle Champs 🩷🌟
[Please read the whole post]
This year, we had the opportunity to double our contributions to Science Week and STEM with not one, but two stalls (at Australian Museum and the Sydney Zoo). Since early this week, our team and volunteers have interacted with hundreds of students, teachers and parents inspiring love for our freshwater turtles. We are pretty sure the total tally will be in the thousands by the end of today.
This a great time to take a moment and recognise all the turtle champs out there who tirelessly work away and find every opportunity to raise awareness in their communities, schools and local areas about freshwater turtles and the importance of conserving them.
We dedicate this post to all the amazing champs out there. Thank you so much for all your hard work! 🩷🌟🩷 Show your love by liking and sharing this post to any turtle champ you know.
Here, we leave you with a nice photo of Ricky in action at our Sydney Zoo Science Trail stall.
Happy Weekend Everyone!!
Pre science trail at the Australian Museum this morning. The crowds are in now. 9000 people registered for today. That's a lot of turtle talk. Wish us luck gang! If you're in the area, drop in and say g'day.
We'll be at the Australian Museum tomorrow. You can find us for a chat about turtles at the One Million Turtle stand.
🤩🐢 Our Awesome Day 5 Science Trail Team at Australian Museum 🤩🐢
Today, we had our wonderful diverse learners coming through the Science Trail at the Australian Museum. As always, there was so much demand for our turtle rock art - which even required an emergency supply run for rocks 😅 A sincere thank you to Sapphire for making that happen!
This year, we have also been collecting questions from visitors to our stall. They can write down any questions about freshwater turtles or our program on a post-it note. The note then gets displayed on the wall behind. This is a great way to better understand the type of information that others are interested in.
A BIG SHOUT OUT to our Day 5 team 🥰 - from left - Sophie Hoffman (student volunteer from University of New England UNE), our 1MT program lead Deb, Sapphire King (volunteer from UNE), and our other 1MT program lead Van.
Are you going into the city tomorrow? Drop by and say hello to our team at The Australian Museum's Science Trail. Tomorrow (Sat 17 Aug) is community day at the Science Trail. Open from 10am to 5pm.
So much to do and see at the Museum. Also, tomorrow is the last day for the Science Trail everyone!
"This is an incredible photograph... we are speechless. 😲🦉
A great grey owl - taken by Alan Murphy. 👏👌
We’re scratching our heads to think of a better example of camo that we’ve seen in the bird world. 🤔 Just, wow! ❤️"
World Lizard Day!
Thanks to our fauna handler James for this fantastic shot of an Eastern Water Dragon eye!
Reptile eyes are a distinct feature in many species with gorgeous scalation and colour surrounding them.
