Students often ask me how they can prepare for upcoming trials at home or during study.
I always mention the following:
Underline or highlight the key aspects of the question to ensure you stay on topic in your response.
Time yourself when answering past papers or sample papers.
Don't exceed 40 minutes writing time per question.
Try and relax.
Half Yearly and Assessment tasks have just been completed. Rework your drafts and take feedback on board.
Fail to act on that feedback and the same mistakes will be made.
Send me your reworked drafts. Visit my website for rates.
When constructing a Creative Writing response in Paper I, Section II, ensure you include the following aspects in your work:
The act of discovery
The nature of the discovery itself
How an individual responds initially
The broader ramifications for the individual and / or society
If these are not evident in your response, it will hinder you in achieving a top band in this section.

Strong opening sentences set the tone for your extended response.
For example:
The power of determination can never be underestimated in facilitating the greatest path to discovery. Within this process the fostering of a unique lens of perspective can lead to renewed and intensely meaningful understandings of oneself and the encompassing world.
Demand has been phenomenal in the past week. Limited availability as Half Yearly exams approach. Don't panic. Contact me. I will try and accommodate you.

Aim for this recommended minimum content required for AOS Discovery - Paper I, Section I (Short Answer Questions)

For 2 mark responses: Write 2 Techniques + 2 Quotes with elaboration and link to the question (aspect of discovery)
For 3 mark responses: Write 3 Techniques + 3 Quotes with elaboration and link to the question (aspect of discovery)
For 5 / 6 mark responses: Write 4 / 5 Techniques + 4 / 5 Quotes with elaboration and link to the question (aspect of discovery)
This response should be at least 1 A4 page in length.
One key Question when exploring the concept of Discovery:
How does the representation of the concept of discovery in and through a range of texts across different contexts make meaning of ourselves and the world around us?
Test yourself on the Discovery Rubric

An insight into breaking down the Discovery rubric - feel free to Like and Share
Speaking to students at times highlights how HSC rubrics are perceived as being black or white. Yet they are anything but that.
For example, the Discovery rubric is open to interpretation and by deconstructing the rubric with my clients, I can offer HSC students guidance and new understandings of the infinite possibilities the rubric provides. This new understanding can then be applied to their own prescribed and related texts as well as benefitting their creative writing.
Such a clear insight into how we can become better writers
