T.W. Woods is now one of the largest and most capable heavy engineering and metal fabrication companies in Eastern Australia. Woods is plasma cutting.
We have some 4500 sq m of purpose-built, fully equipped workshop space at our headquarters in Tomago, NSW. We have recently constructed an entirely new 1200 sq m factory, housing state-of-the-art painting, blasting and plasma cutting facilities under the one roof. Woods invests strongly in our staff, and in advanced technologies, so we can perform large, small and complex tasks to top levels of co
st- efficiency and precision.
1000-amp sub arc welding
We like to do a lot of our work in-house at T.W. Woods, because this helps us greatly to meet our high quality and on-time delivery commitments. We are continuing to invest strongly in the latest technology to help us achieve our aim of doing the best job for our customers at the best price. One of our recent acquisitions is a laser-guided 1000 amp sub-arc welding facility, which delivers high quality butt welds in thick steel. These crack-free joints have obvious quality and safety advantages – including where we are dealing with specialized metals and manufacturing complex shapes. Our high speed, high efficiency welding facilities help enable us to handle the large, the complex and the everyday tasks on which we pride ourselves.

Plasma cutting
One of our key in-house capabilities at T.W. We possess the expertise, experience and technology to draw, programme and precision cut a wide range of jobs. We constantly update our technology to keep abreast of the latest in this field, including our 400 sq m plate processing facility. This brilliant facility incorporates a 300 amp cad-cam profile plasma cutting bed, capable of cutting 13m X 3.5m plates up to 60mm thick with plasma - and more than 150mm with oxy. The facility also houses a 1600amp stud welding machine, and a plate handling and processing facility serviced by a 10-ton overhead gantry crane. Just look at our website to see the scale, scope and complexity of some of the jobs we have handled. Rolling and Pressing
Rolling and pressing is another of our key strengths. Our well equipped fabrication shop has advanced rolling capabilities, with three vertical rolls that can roll most metals and wear plates. Our 1000 ton vertical roll press brake has the capacity to roll 3.1m long x 70mm thick, Grade 250 material, to an Inside Diameter of 1800mm. This enables us to offer highly competitive quotes, for the rolling of cylinders and cones, up to these capacities. We can also press plates up to 6000mm long – and we offer supply of most materials specified- including
• Wear plates
• Mild steel
• Aluminium
• Stainless steel
Chutes, hoppers, bins, liners, pipes, T-sections, bellows, pumps – you name it, we can do it

1000-ton brake press
Our mighty 1000-ton brake press is a major acquisition, which helps us to do even the largest metal forming jobs in-house. The 1000-ton by 3.2m brake press can form steel plate up to 60mm thick. Structures for which it is suitable include draglines, buckets, mills, earthmoving equipment, ripper blades, pressure tanks and pipelines. In fact, all heavy plate fabrications involving quenched and tempered metal, carbon steel, stainless steel and specialist material. Abrasive blasting and painting
Our extensive on-site abrasive blasting and painting facilities mean T.W. Woods can maintain outstanding quality control and reliable scheduling of deliveries. Our purpose-built industrial painting facility comes complete with all modern services, including a complete undercover 800 sq m paint shop, with 10-ton overhead crane
This extensive paint and blasting facility – with four airless spray units and five blast stations – also incorporates a sand blast chamber with 10-metre high ceiling to handle large tasks
The blast chamber feeds directly to a state-of-the-art 720 sq m industrial paint shop with 12m entry door to handle major projects. Our staff team
We understand that great technology can’t produce great results without outstanding staff to operate it. For more than 50 years we have always placed strong emphasis on building up the best team, giving them the best tools and keeping them and the customers satisfied. Nearly a quarter of our team of 50 tradesmen has been with us more than 10 years and many have more than 20 years service. We also employ apprentices every year - through good times and bad - so that we expand that foundation of knowledge on which a good business is based. This pays handsome dividends to customers, whose work is handled by experienced people who understand their individual needs.
