Country Bakery #5 happens to be in Tasmania once again, on my last day of travels. The Elizabeth Town Bakery Cafe on the Bass Hwy between Devonport and Launceston. I’ve stopped here many times on my Tassie trips. I bought the Chunky Beef Pie, which was a good size but for $8.50 it should be. The pastry was crunchy but not messy. The inside filling wasn’t as chunky as what I’ve experienced in the past. The temperature was on the hot side but still within an exceptable range . Overall it was an enjoyable experience and I give it 4🌟.

Country Bakery #4 on my travels is Ross Bakery Inn @ Ross Tasmania. One of my clients in Hobart said I must detour and try the Ross Inn Bakery for the Curried Scallop Pie. Well I’m glad I did! Wowee the pie was outstanding, a good size and the pastry perfect. The contents were delicious with heaps of scallops and the right amount of curry. The temperature was spot on which applied me to smash it down. $11.30 was well worth it. 5 🌟

While devouring the pie I noticed they laid claim to the best Vanilla Slice (Snot Block) in Tasmania. So for $7.50 the square shaped Vanilla Slice was a good size. The offered me a spoon as the slice is quite high with a generous layer of icing sugar. Of course, I decided to give it a go without the spoon. I thought there would be a huge mess, however the pastry snapped as you ate it and you could glide through the sticky goo without too much trouble. It was outstanding and well worth the purchase another 5🌟 for the slice. If you are ever driving between Hobart and Launceston do yourself a favour and drop in, you won’t be disappointed!

Country Bakery #3 on my travels is Stratford Bakery between Traralgon and Bairnsdale Gippsland Victoria. The Plain Pie (of course without sauce) was delicious! The pie was a good size, the pastry was a good thickness, the temperature spot on and the filling was tasty. At $5.50 highly recommend stopping for one. 4.5 ⭐️ However being extremely hungry today, I bought the vanilla slice at $5.50 also a generous size. The pastry stayed together and wasn’t too flakey. The inside was really nice and didn’t squeeze out the sides when you take a bite. It wasn’t messy and easy to eat. I’ve also given an extra point for topping the slice with a touch of passionfruit coulis it was yum!! 4.5 🌟 this place is worth a stop!!!

Country Bakery #2 Gippslands Maffra Hot Bake Bakery in Country Victoria. I had the plain pie, good size and well priced @ $5.50. The pastry was excellent, the temperature was perfect so easy to smash it down. Unfortunately the contents didn’t live up to the standards of the rest of the pie. 2.5 / 5!

As an Optical Road Warrior out on the road I like to try Australia’s Bakery’s for the best Pies or Cakes. The Maldon Bakery is Australia’s oldest continuously running bakery. Est 1854. Their Vanilla Slice is just the perfect size and delicious. Unfortunately I didn’t get a photo as I ate it!! If you are in the area give it a go. This will be the first post of many of our countries great bakers.
