What an awesome evening with all roopu arriving safely in Mackay.

Pictured below is the elder of Mackay to whom we ackowledge and we pay our respect to. We acknowledge their elders past present and emerging.

The first public holiday that acknowledges the Māori new year is being celebrated in New Zealand. For us as Māori residing in Australia, this day is acknowledged by uniting all New Zealanders, Pasifika and First Nations people of Australia.

This weekend leaders from around regional Queensland have planned for a full day of Kapa Haka, Kai, arts and crafts, for what will be our 2nd Annual Matariki Festival.

To all our whānau in New Zealand and beyond.

A Townsville based kapa Haka group and is one of Far North Queenslands longest running Haka teams. Established in the early 2000’s, this roopu will hit the stage once again. Under new tutorage, the roopu have dedicated their performance to founding member and tutor Whaea Ruihi Tamihana.

E te Whaea, moe mai ra. Koutou katoa o Puawai Aroha, nau mai haere mai ki te kaupapa o Matariki.

Kia kaha te tū, kia maia te tū, kia manawanui te tū, ko wai maatou, ko te roopu o Puawai Aroha.
