More than 250,000 Australians live with epilepsy, a devastating, misunderstood and often hidden condition. In Australia, access to expert care is limited and current treatment is plagued with uncertainty and delay, which results in associated costs of around $12.3b* each year.
The Australian Epilepsy Project - AEP are on a mission to change the lives of people living with epilepsy. Underpinned by a national network of specialist hubs, the AEP platform gives benefits to patients from day one by providing access to advanced diagnostics and treatment pathways that are usually only available within research.
If you are someone experiencing seizures or have been diagnosed with epilepsy, the AEP is accepting registrations of interest to join our study via the website at https://www.epilepsyproject.org.au/get-involved

Today is World Down Syndrome Day 💗
Ben, who has Down syndrome, joined the NDIS during early trials in the Hunter region of New South Wales in 2014. This was the beginning of a more meaningful and independent life for Ben.
Ben had a desire to learn how to 'pull a beer' and with the help of his support workers, completed a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course and scored a job at the Happy Wombat.
Ben loves working at the Happy Wombat and thinks he now pulls a pretty good beer!
Ben’s story: https://bit.ly/4akhNtb
“Yesterday I went from celebrating an 11-year-old boys birthday party with my brothers and sisters at work to responding to the absolutely tragic death of two babies. This is the other side. The raw side that nobody talks about. The side everyone who isn’t in law enforcement doesn’t realize happens to us... but believe it or not, we grieve too. We are humans. You just don’t know because once we leave that terrible, heart wrenching call, we come to you and there are no tears or anger from the last call we were at. We’re just there to take care of you. I simply ‘file it away’ as I tell people that ask, ‘How do you deal with the things you’ve seen?’ This picture was taken a few hours into my shift today and you guessed it, I had to wipe those tears up and go to the next call. I wholeheartedly understand I’m not the only person affected by this, and there are so many people, family included, who this affects more than me - I understand that and I am not trying to take anything away from anyone at all. It’s simply on my heart to share this tonight. I know with what’s going on in our world right now it won’t accomplish much, but I just pray you have mercy on all of us. We are all fighting a battle that you can’t see just by looking at us. We take this uniform off every night and we crawl into bed and have to learn how to process the grief, just like any other human being. To my brothers and sisters who are battling it too, thank you for not giving up and I am always here to listen.”

Rare for me to post personal stuff on here but this is very close to home...
Maybe if people weren't too far up their own rear ends or have their heads buried in the sand of oblivion and took the time to understand instead of judging, thinking it won’t happen to them because they think they have the ‘perfect family’, then life will be that bit easier for people who experience this.
This rings very close to home for me.
Not only myself but for family and friends.
The days of ‘it’ being shut away and not talked about or even criticised should be over.
Yes there are some that milk the system and others that don't know or understand how much help there is available. Then you get the ones that want nothing more than to be "rid" of the shadow.
Unfortunately for most of us, it is only in the most difficult moments of life you realise who are your true friends and the people who really appreciate you are 😊
It is also very unfortunate, most friends will send you a "like", but in reality they do not actually take the time to read your status if they see it's lengthy.
More than half will stop reading right here, or have already scrolled on to the next post in their feed.
I'm posting for anyone who has a friend or family member suffering a terrible mental illness and now I'm watching the ones who will have the time to read this post until the end.
This is a little test, just to see who reads, and who shares without reading.
If you have read everything so far, select "like" so I can put a thank you in your profile because Mental Health Awareness is needed, just because you can not see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
People ARE suffering and even dying as a result of Mental Health issues.
This is real, it is insidious and people need help.
Maybe it will even strike up a conversation with someone that wouldn't normally talk to you because they don't know how to broach the subject and this becomes their way to reach out.
Please, in honour of a family member or a friend who is suffering or has passed away from mental health, copy and paste this entire message on your page and also try to spare a little of your time with someone who may just want to talk (about anything).
Talking can help someone to cope a little more with their situation, keeping it bottled up just makes it worse.
Most people say, "if you need anything, don't hesitate to call me, I'll be there to help you". So, I'm going to make a bet that most who saw this post (maybe even read all the way to the end) won't, but I believe a select few of my friends will post this, to show their support for their family/friend who may be struggling.
Please just copy (not share) and paste.
I'd like to know who I can count on to take a minute out of their day and actually read my status then write "done" in the comments. Thank you. 💗💗
For all the friends I have lost along the way and hopefully the ones I have may actually get to save!

So I have a much deserved holiday and I’m back a week to get Covid. Then I am back into the nitty gritty of speech lessons with the little ones. I love my job and they made me feel so welcomed back. Look at all their hard work. Great stuff guys.
"Your son may never live independently."
"There aren't many places for kids with autism after high school."
"You should probably build some living space in your home for him."
These were a handful of things told to me over the years about my son Jack.
Today, from hundreds of miles away, he texted this picture.

Never give up. Whatever it is you've set your sights on, keep going.
