Sometimes, the dog we love might not live close to us, you might think it’s an impossible task to source a dog in this way but it is more common than you think! In this simple guide, we help you navigate the process.

Research and Connect:
Connect with multiple breeders to get an idea of market pricing and expected wait times. Reaching out to different breeders means you can build relationships with the right one for you. Seek breeder recommendations from friends, family or colleagues, personal advocates are a great way to find the dog you love.

Investigate the Breeder:
Research the breeder thoroughly, are they Dogz Online members? Check out any social media or websites they have and any reviews from previous customers.

Health and Communication:
Your pet’s health is essential. Make sure vaccinations and parasite preventions are up to date. Contact the breeder to discuss the lineage and temperament of the parents and the temperament of the individual puppies. Ask for a video or FaceTime call so that you can see the puppies and the environment in which they are living.

For transporting your new companion within Australia, air travel is a common method used by breeders. Check with your breeder for recommended air travel companies and associated costs. Note that most breeds can travel domestically, but brachycephalic breeds require special attention due to respiratory issues.

If considering ground transport, your breeder may recommend a trusted pet transport company. This option, while potentially more cost-effective, will add time to your dog's journey.

If driving to pick up your new family dog, secure them in a crate or harness and plan for frequent stops. Book pet-friendly accommodations if needed and keep your dog comfortable with water, food, bedding, and any necessary medications.
