Your local voice for the environment North Queensland Conservation Council (NQCC) is celebrating 50 years with a night of stories, music and poetry at the The Drill Hall Studio. Save the date. Buy a ticket. I'll post more details in the next couple of weeks. It would be great to see some attendees of the storynights we held at Mary Who? Bookshop come to this evening of entertainment.

People Culture & Country 2023 07/11/2023

Another year of fabulous Wearable Art from north Queensland indigenous school students, inspired by indigenous art and culture, and guided by local indigenous artists. My role this year was putting together the "Behind the Scenes" video from footage taken mostly by the teachers and support workers in the project. The outfits are on display at Pinnacles Gallery till the 19th November. It's a beautiful form of storytelling and I feel lucky to be involved in this project.

76. We have featured 76 stories at Life Out Loud!

We have laughed, cried and gasped in horror at the events shared on our stage.

Last show, 8 storytellers (including the 5 in the picture!) told us a story from their lives.

If you'd like to add your name to the list, we're always looking for storytellers, and full support and coaching is provided. We're got a full line-up this show, so if you're unsure, come and watch, and start thinking about putting your hand up for our final show in 2023 (in November!)

Life Out Loud - North Queensland… “Strong” kicks off at MW?.

03/03/2023

It's an all woman show tonight which is just so cool, given the prominence of "Strong" women in our community. It doesn't mean we don't want our strong men along to listen to their stories. Just a few tickets left - NO TIX ON THE DOOR

WHY come to a story night? I came across this quote from Sheila Heen. I think it reflects on why we come but also on the generosity of our storytellers who share a moment of their lives for us.
"And I think that learning happens between us, that the way that you learn about yourself, the way you might learn about God or the universe, or the nature of life is in that space between you and me." Attribution: “The Tim Ferriss Show”

I hope everyone had a great break and is feeling excited to support more live story nights in 2023.

Merry Christmas everyone. Even a short anecdote can speak volumes about our lives and how the world has changed. This is from Jeanne Ryckmans in the weekend oz. “journalist Luke Slattery, prepping for a profile of
Dad for The Australian's Review of Books, peppered me with
questions about my father….(Pierre Ryckmans)

Canberra in the early 1970s was not the sophisticated and cosmopolitan city that it is today. Pierre had already been arrested by the local police for doing Tai Chi on the the nature strip in front of the university housing where we first lodged upon our arrival in the nation's capital. The confused constables assumed he was an escapee from the notorious Kenmore Psychiatric Hospital, "doing karate in slow-motion" and bundled him into the back of their paddy wagon.

2022 is wrapping up and my wrap up for our storytellers (both past and future) is some posts for you to celebrate and find inspiration. Romaine Moreton is a poet who publishes but also reads her poetry for live audiences. This quote is from A Walk With Words (ABC iview doco).

"Words at this time of my life liberate me. I do love the power of words to seduce especially if they have rhythm and a beautiful melody, im not talking about music behind the words. If words are put together a certain way they more easily enter a persons body, into their soul, into their consciousness and it is when those words are resonating within that being that some sort of conscious maybe emotional change is more able to take place."

IT WORKS FOR ME!!!
