We celebrated National Tree day on Friday with the help and support of the Bunnings Community outreach program. The children enjoyed planting some bush tucker plants and natives. This was a rich learning experience for us all as we learnt to care for our environment.

Vickers Road Childcare Did you know that children living in foster care have the lowest educational outcomes in Australia? I am raising money for a cause that means a lot to me and I would appreciate any support you can give. The Pyjama Foundation supports children living in foster care with learning, life skills, and con...
Just a reminder that the Community Fun Day is on tomorrow. Don't miss it. 😀
Self-regulation.
Every time a child goes into distress, their young brain is calling to the adult in the room to lead it back to calm. It’s as though the brain is saying, ‘Can you show me how to do this regulation thing. I’ll need to practice lots with you before I can do it on my own.’ Karen Young
A great little blog from Karen Young about self regulation.
Big Feelings: The Training Ground for Self-Regulation. - Hey Sigmund Wherever our nervous systems are, theirs will follow. We will co-regulate or co-dysregulate. When we meet their big feelings with frustration or anger, it doubles the already unbearable emotional temperature of the room and drives the brain into bigger distress (fight or flight). They will either ca...
Community Gro is holding their annual Upper Ross Community Fun Day this Saturday at Charles Moroney park. If you are looking for something to do with your children this weekend, this could be a fun day.
We are looking for a coffee van for our Family Fun Day on 15th July 2023! If you are interested or know of anyone with a coffee van or food van please let us know, we would love to have you there :)
All week we have been sharing stories and activities highlighting 2023 NAIDOC Week. Together we celebrated our First Nations Peoples with a focus on our Elders who have driven, and led change over generations, championing change, equal rights, and even basic human rights.
Thankyou so much Shamika from the Community Gro Hippy program, for coming down to the centre and organising some messy play activities for our Frogs room children. There were so many activities and the children had so much fun.
HIPPY is a free two year home-based early childhood enrichment program. HIPPY builds the confidence and skills of parents and carers to create a positive learning environment to prepare their child for school. Children join HIPPY two years before they start formal schooling (usually three years of age). If you would like to know more about participating in the HIPPY program please log onto their website www.hippyaustralia.bsl.org.au
We love the support we get from Community GRO

We worked on our rainbow breathing today in Kids Yoga with Miss Dea and heard all about the story of The Rainbow Serpent. Rainbow breathing is a great settling breath and is used quite often to help us feel calm and centred. We thought you might like to try it at home so here is a short 1min utube clip.

Celebrating International YOGA day today.
A little yoga can go a long way for our children, our centre and even our educators. It brings us so much joy to deliver our yoga program. We always have so much fun and enjoy stretching and balancing our bodies and minds.
I was so spoilt by my work family today. I love working at Vickers Road. To me it feels like home! Love you all and thanks from Miss Dea.
For those families wanting to engage/extend on reconciliation conversations with your children. There are even resources you can access via the link.
Play School: Walking Together Hunter, Rachael & Emma Donovan walk us through our shared histories and the role we all play in building relationships & communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and futures.
A FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER...........
As a community and family we came together on Sunday to help tidy and improve the Gardens at Vickers Road. It gave us such a sense of joy and accomplishment to see the results of our work and to know that we all contributed to our environment, spent time laughing and enjoying each others company, and got a decent workout!!!. In this busy, rush, rush, world of ours its so important to take time out to contribute, and be part of something bigger. Thankyou all who came.
Today in Yoga, one of our mum's shared some affirmations that she and her son say every night and the other children loved them. Then we spoke about our feelings and used a feather to practice our big breaths and calm our bodies. Affirmations can be a powerful tool for children. We can teach children to use affirmations to improve their well-being, boost their self-esteem, and encourage creative thinking.
This morning we had the most wonderful Recycle bin collector, our very own Remy who is a friend in the Frogs room. This is a beautiful moment that Remy and his mum share upon arrival at Kindy on recycle bin weeks. Remy loves the garbage trucks, and often looks for them at the school located next door as they empty the big industrial bins, on Recycle bin days at our centre, and at bin days at home. The garbage truck driver has even given Remy a little gift for always being around cheering them on as they collect our waste. Thank you for being such a great helper.
Today we had the opportunity to think and talk about our environmental footprints and the sustainability of our world during EARTH HOUR. We initially turned off all the centre lights for an hour and loved it so much that we kept them off for most of the day. We love any opportunity to support the children to be environmentally responsible and I'm sure they will come home today and want to turn all of your household lights off as well.
Sorry no photos as it was too dark ha ha.
Kids yoga today was so much fun. This week we focused our attention on Balance, Co-ordination, Connection and self-care. We incorporated our whole body with shaking, making circles, felt the rhythym, and practiced our patience while waiting for our turn for the ball game. Moving and shaking our whole body is really good for our brain development. It effects the vestibular system in our brain and is a very powerful tool for self-soothing and focusing attention. Its especially helpful in the morning or afternoon to regulate our mood and attention, plus its so much fun and energising.
Happy Friday everyone. Just remember when your planning family activities on the weekend, plan some downtime as well. The stress of the week can affect everyone in the family so its important to rest, relax and reset. Picnic lunch in the yard, cloud watching on the lawn, listening to a story or meditation together.

I wanted to share this is a beautiful meditation for children to calm and relax their bodies. It's so great to stop and connect and be present at any time throughout the day, not just at bedtime. It only goes for 4 mins but don't stress if your little one doesn't sit for that long, sometimes if you just start with a minute or even 30 secs and then build up to longer. The more you practice calm together the better you both get at it.
Enjoy.......love from Miss Dea

We are hiring!
We are currently searching for the next amazing educator to join our team. Qualified and experienced educator preferred, generous above award wages offered, as well as paid study time. Email [email protected] if you are interested in joining our team.
Kids Yoga and music has started up last week. When children practice yoga it increases their confidence, builds concentration and strengthens growing bodies. For the next few weeks we will be exploring some yoga animal poses. I wonder if you can spot a kangaroo, a snake or some crocodile poses in the pictures. We are learning how our breath helps to calm our bodies down and also increasing our confidence with our positive statements.
I AM KIND
I AM A GOOD LISTENER
I AM BRAVE

Wishing all of our beautiful kindy graduates an amazing first day at big school today, we are so proud of all of you and know you will all have a wonderful day and a very bright future.
One of the projects we have on our list is to re-vamp our MUD GARDEN area.
The lovely, constant rain has helped to soften the soil around the tyres in the mud garden so as soon as there was a break in the rain we got in and started working on removing the tyres. As soon as we started work our beautiful children came over to check out what was happening and offered to help.
"Im strong too Miss Dea"
" Look I'm helping you Miss Dea"
" I always help in the garden at home"
" I can move the tires by pushing them Miss Dea"
Its so much fun being able to work together to create an area we are all proud of.
Stay tuned for more updates.
Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Last Friday we held our Christmas party here at the centre, and wow, what a wonderful afternoon we all had. Thank you to all our amazing families who took time out of their busy schedules to share an afternoon of fun with us. It is truly something special to stand back and watch our families, educators and extended families interacting amongst each other and enjoying themselves.

Today we had the chance to celebrate some special people in our lives. The children's eyes always light up on days like these when we have special visitors to the centre. We had craft, painting, games and morning tea and thankfully the weather was a bit cooler today. Thankyou to all those extended family and friends that add love and affection to the lives of our children. It really does take a village to raise these beautiful small humans and we are thankful you are a part of ours.
We had a lot of fun today dressing up. Pretend play encourages our imagination and creativity, helps to support our social and emotional development, improves our language and communication, not to mention its so much fun.
This week in the Dino's we have had the pleasure to learn about Diwali festival of lights and how Yahvi and her family celebrate it at home, we have been able to share this learning throughout the centre.
We have enjoyed tasting and cooking Indian foods and treats and being able to dress in some of Yahvi's Indian clothes and dance to Indian music.
We all wore Red today in honour of Day for Daniel. This is Australia’s largest day of action to raise awareness of child safety, protection, and harm prevention. Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe.

Today is Early Childhood Educators' Day and I’d like to take the opportunity to say thank you to all our amazing Educators at Vickers Road Childcare Centre.
Our Educators work hard to nurture the physical, intellectual and emotional wellbeing of children in our care. Thank you for everything you do for our youngest learners and their families.
In honour of Fathers Day this Sunday we invited all the special people in our childrens' lives to come and have a play and morning tea with us today. The children had so much fun together playing and creating today. Thankyou for sharing this special time together with us.
It's one of our favourite times of the year with the celebration of children's literature with the Council of Australia Book Week. The theme for Book Week - 2022 is "Dreaming with eyes open...". The children had a fantastic day, dressing as their favourite book characters.
Don't forget we have brand new books on sale in the Foyer for the rest of the week.
This week it was National science week. In the ducks room we looked at our experiments through glass? Some of the experiments included cooking, tasting and feeling the cheese on our pizzas before and after being cooked. We replicated a volcano using bicarb, detergent and vinegar. We loved the reaction of the bicarb and vinegar. "More! More!" the children would say as it started fizzling down. We looked at rain in a jar, what happens when a cloud gets so full of water it rains- this was the same with our shaving cream when it got so full of colour it seeped. We looked at lava lamps, filling jars up with water and oil and dropping aspirin into the top and watching the bubbles. Lastly we looked and milk and detergent. The children showed a lot of patience when doing this experiment. We loved all of our science activities and can't wait to explore some more in the future.
Every year on the second Friday in August we celebrate Red Nose Day.
30 years ago, Red Nose Day sparked a global movement and catalysed research into the reasons why babies die suddenly in their sleep.
And because of that, we now have six evidence-based steps all parents can take to reduce the risk of their baby dying in their sleep.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible public support for Red Nose Day.
Today we acknowledge and celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day!
The date 4 August was historically used to communally acknowledge the birthdays of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken from their families at a young age, without knowing their birthday – the Stolen Generations.
Children's Day is now celebrated across the country to acknowledge the strength and resilience of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and culture.

Our construction area is well underway, and the kids are loving it so much. Woodwork is exceptional for developing children’s creative and critical thinking skills as children tinker and experiment with the possibilities of wood and tools and then go on to express ideas and resolve their work. But woodwork it is not just about what children make – it is all about the changes that are happening within the child. Woodwork has a significant impact on children’s self-esteem and confidence and it develops a sense of agency – that “can-do” mindset.
Thankyou for all donations of materials, we are still looking for clean wood off cuts, plastic crates, peg board.
