Staying physically active can reduce your risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, stroke, and several common cancers. It also strengthens your bones and muscles, improving your ability to do everyday tasks like grocery shopping and climbing stairs.

Staying motivated to exercise during winter can be as simple as mixing up your routine and doing activities you enjoy. Walking, running, and cycling are all great outdoor winter activities. Studies reported by Harvard University show that exercising in cold weather can help you burn fat more efficiently. Be sure to warm up properly before you start, and if you’re heading out into the cold, remember to dress warmly so you can add or remove layers when needed.

If the weather makes it difficult to exercise outdoors, consider options like indoor sports, swimming, yoga, exercise classes, or the gym. Remember to wipe down surfaces before or after using them and opt for venues with great ventilation.
