Booked in your home lending specialist appointment? Our Senior Home Lending Specialist, Zain, tells us what you might get asked.
🏡 What are your short, medium- and long-term goals? Is your goal to purchase a family home, a second home or an investment property? Your goal could impact the type of loan we recommend.
🏡 How is a home loan going to help you progress further towards these goals? Investing in property may help you achieve your financial goals, but as with all investments, there are potential risks that you should consider.
🏡 What is the optimal deposit you can save? The bigger your deposit, the smaller your loan will be. Ideally, you should aim to try and save as much as possible before buying a home.

Three things we’ll never do: scams edition 👇
1. Send you a text message asking you login and verify your details via a link.
2. Call you by a generic name like “Hi Customer” or simply “Hey/Hello”.
3. Ask you to transfer funds, share your screen or reveal your passwords.
Meet the girls from Pagewood Botany FC, one of the 121 clubs that recently received a $5,000 Growing Football Fund grant to help grow and retain participation for women and girls at their club ⚽ These lucky girls will have the chance to see their heroes up close and personal when they take to the pitch as ball kids for the CommBank Matildas v China game next week.
Scammers are finding more sophisticated ways to target our customers every day. As our branch manager Saly Gad found out last month, sometimes their methods can be convincing.
“I recently had an experience with a nervous customer who had come into our branch looking to transfer money to a friend in the USA. It turns out, a scammer had hacked into our customer’s accounts and transferred money from his savings to his transactions account. The scammer couldn’t transfer straight into his own account because the CommBank app required a code to send the money. That’s when the scammer called our customer and convinced him that he was a Microsoft staff member who urgently needed the customer to transfer him 10k so he wouldn’t lose his job.
It's part of our training to be attentive and notice when a customer is uncomfortable. That’s how we were able to identify and verify the facts when our customer was at his most vulnerable. I am glad that in this circumstance, we were able to catch the scam before it happened and save our customer thousands of dollars and a lot of stress.”
Just as our customer experienced here, scammers will try to put pressure on you to act quickly and with emotion to get what they want.
Remember if it doesn't seem right, it probably isn't. Stop🛑, Check🔎 and Reject❌.
Buying your next home? Our Home Lending Executive, Victoria, chats through the things you should be considering before you get started.
🏡 What are your reasons for buying? Is it to upsize, are you searching for an investment opportunity or are you looking to move for work or for school opportunities for the kids. This could impact the type of loan we could offer.
🏡 How can you use the equity in your current property to help with this next purchase? You may be able to access your equity and use it as a deposit for your next one or you may be able to use your current property as security for the home loan on your next property.
🏡 Have you considered how much you can afford? You’ll need to assess your current financial situation as this will help to determine your borrowing power whilst taking into account your current home loan repayments.

Roses are red, violets are blue,
We’re not great at poetry
So here's a reminder for you.
Valentine’s scammers are lurking around,
In your DMs, they’re sure to be found,
Watch out for the signs, don’t send them money,
Even if their bio says “I’m 6’4’ and funny”.
They’ll often tell lies, that’ll sing to your heart,
Acting head over heels, that’s just the start,
So hear this warning and learn how to detect,
By always remembering to Stop, Check and Reject.
🚨 Watch out for Black Friday shopping scams 🚨
Last year, Aussies lost more than $9 million dollars to online shopping scams. Watch out for these three scammer tricks to help keep you safe 👇
1. Fake websites that look like genuine stores offering products at very low prices. Pro tip: pay close attention to the website URL as often only one element will be different to the genuine store.
2. Sellers asking for payment via direct bank transfer or cryptocurrency.
3. Websites with limited information about delivery, return and privacy policies can all be signs of a scam.
If the price is too good to be true, then it probably is. Remember to Stop 🛑, Check 🔎 and Reject ❌ any calls, emails and messages that look suspicious.
