The Rhino's visited Inverleith Petanque Club this morning for a League Match. A good match ended in a 3-3 Draw.

Thanks to Sandy Howden for bringing the Scottish Labour Leader and Midlothian candidate to Roslin where he asked to see our Petanque Piste as he had heard about the growth of the game in Midlothian. Pity his PR team didn't grab a pic with him and Kirsty throwing boules and it's Petanque not Bowling!!!

Midlothian Petanque Clubs are very grateful to the many local Councillors who have supported the build of these popular facilities in our Communities.

Today the Rhinos played Penicuik in the petanque league, it was a close game with the Rhinos just winning it by 3.5 points (3 wins and one draw) to 2.5 points (2 wins and one draw).

A decent start to the league with 2 wins and one loss.

Next month see us play Inverleith away on Saturday 13th July.

Today was our first match in the new Lothian and Borders petanque league. Rosslyn Rhinos were the winners beating Walkerburn by 4 games to 2.

The Rhinos won 3 of the pairs games and the single. Walkerburn won the triple and a pairs game.

Our team today was:
Alison Watson, Carol Cheam, Bill Nicholson, Mike Goldsmith, Paul Gillam and Jim Hiddleston

These are the 7 teams in the league.

A good turnout this morning with 9 players taking part. We also welcomed back Carol and Paul returning after their winter break.

The winners today were Alison and Mike winning a closely contested final against Bill and Jim.

Anyone interested in Saturday morning petanque come along to the Rhinos at the Glencorse Centre on Saturday mornings, play starts at 10.

A painted Gingerbread Man Rustie given to Alison at todays petanque. Recognition for purchasing loads of our Rusties and also her support for petanque, hardly ever missing a petanque session. Thanks Alison from us all the Rhinos and Wellbeing Essentials.

All welcome to try petanque - club sessions are Tuesday 10.30am and Sunday 1pm in Roslin park. Plus at the Rhino’s at the Glencorse Centre piste at 10.30am on Saturdays.

Good win in todays singles competition by Jockey, beating Alison in the final. Jockey takes one of the four places in the Midlothian singles final taking place on the 4 November.

Tomorrow the Rhinos GC petanque piste hosts the Born to Play Grand Final starting at 10.30am.

The winners of the four “Born to Play” competitions who play in the Grand Final in a round robin are the:

Bulls & Belle - Newtongrange winners
Rosslyn Rhinos - Penicuik winners

The last Wellbeing Essentials’ “Born to Play” qualifying petanque competitions took place today at the Penicuik petanque piste. The winners were the Rosslyn Rhinos team of Paul and Mike winning all 5 of their games and securing a place in the Grand Final on Sunday 2 July at 10.30am at the Rhinos GC piste.

The winners of the four “Born to Play” competitions who will contest the Grand Final in a round robin format are the:

Another great day at the monthly Born to Play petanque competition which this month was hosted by Newtongrange Petanque Club.

Champions today were Newtongrange’s Bulls & Belle winning against the Hares in the final.

The last available place in the July grand final will be decided at Penicuik petanque in June’s competition.

The Born to Play tour today was hosted by Walkerburn Bowls and Petanque club who also arranged for a sunny day.

The final today was contested between the Stags (John and Bob) and the Hares (David and Julia). A large number stayed behind and watched an exciting final with the Hares winning and becoming the Walkerburn Born to Play Tour champions - winning the cash prize, a place in the Grand Final in July and Wellbeing Essentials community vouchers to spend on food at the Glencorse Centre Brae Cafe when purchasing a Rusty Beans vending drink.

A good performance also from the Glencorse Foxes in their first season who won their first tour match.

Next up in the tour is at the Newtongrange Petanque Club on Sunday 7th May at 10.15am.

The tour is supported by Wellbeing Essentials Community Vending Coffee and drinks - coffee beans are freshly ground by the machine for an special introductory price of £1.50 per cup available at the entrance to the Glencorse Centre.
