🎶 The World Youth Choir has returned home after an unforgettable Alumni Session 2024 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, hosted by HarbourVOICES! 🌍✨
This year, the choir brought together 32 gifted singers from 24 different countries, performing under the artistic leadership of Cecilia Rydinger from Sweden. They delivered stunning classical choral pieces while delving into the rich musical traditions of Scandinavian and Canadian Indigenous cultures.
The choir had the privilege of learning from Andrew Balfour, Hussein Janmohamed, and André De Quadros, who shared powerful stories of resilience, hope, and understanding, emphasizing the importance of overcoming exclusion. A standout moment was their collaboration with the Indigenous children of the Ullugiâgatsuk Youth Choir on Andrew Balfour's piece "Four Directions."
Jacob Collier, the festival's headliner, conducted an inspiring 3-hour workshop on his composition "World, O World," which culminated in an extraordinary performance at the Gala Concert. Jacob himself led the 1400 singers, creating a truly unforgettable experience.
