Welcome from 16:00 until 21:00 for the start of Kortrijk Art Weekend! At Liebaert Projects we have the final weekend of our current exhibition ‘Datacomb Area’ by French artist and musician Erwan Sene. Come and discover the dystopian installation with new sculptures, light and sound. On Sunday will perform live from 15:00 on, welcome!

Tomorrow starts the first edition of Kortrijk Art Weekend. This new platform brings more than 20 organizations together that present visual arts in Kortrijk. On you can find all current exhibitions and events going on in Kortrijk. Every organization opens their doors from tomorrow 16:00 to Welcome you all for an exciting weekend full of Art!

Welcome this afternoon to discover ‘Datacomb Area’ by French artist and musician Erwan Sene.
For his first solo exhibition in Belgium the artist has created new sculptures, graphic works and an edition to evoke an abandoned amusement park like environment. The works are the protagonist in a constant dialogue with each other with their sound and lights.

For his first solo exhibition in Belgium the artist has created new sculptures, graphic works and an edition to evoke an abandoned amusement park like environment. The works are the protagonist in a constant dialogue with each other with their sound and lights.

This Saturday will play at Reset in Brussels for .bxl

Erwan Sene is an artist and musician based in Paris. His composite body of work is led by a sculptural practice that unfolds on several levels – reprising, digesting and warping the objects that surround him. His first full-length album, JUnQ (or the Journal of Unsolved Questions), was released on PAN on April 2023. It is part of a multi-faceted, immersive installation project incorporating sculptures, a book and an exhibition that explores ideas of AI ontology and the nature of artistic performance.

Composed like a chorus of fantastical beasts, the album wanders atmospherically through a fogged wood. Sounds are sculpted, distorted and amplified, becoming hybrids of themselves. Sinuous violins, muffled harpsichord and digital instruments can be heard in this jungle of sounds, echoing rhythmic spirals and mystic drum tones.

Today we open our doors again between 14:00 and 18:00 to present you Erwan Sene’s solo exhibition ‘Datacomb Area’. Come and discover this immersive installation. Throwback to March when we visited Erwan Sene’s first solo exhibition ‘Zona Gargantua’ in Paris at gallery We were blown away by the immersive installation that combines sculpture, sound and light in a unique way. For his latest solo exhibition here at Liebaert Projects Sene continued the story from ‘Zona Gargantua’ and created an abandoned amusement park like environment that could well be a memorial to the bygone dreams of a technical utopia. Today we present some recent works by the French artist and musician Erwan Sene. Curious to discover his immersive sculptures that combine light and sound? Come to the opening of his latest solo exhibition ‘Datacomb Area’ at Liebaert Projects on Saturday 16.09 between 17:00-21:00. Welcome!

Erwan Sene is a Paris-based visual artist and musician. His sculptural and musical work incorporates, digests, and distorts the situations that he encounters. He explores the themes of contamination and science fiction in both domestic and urban settings. His album JUnQ, Journal of Unsolved Questions, released in April 2023 on PAN and accompanied by a book is the result of a dual exercise: to sketch music and to score sculptures. JUnQ creates a musical language that merges the algorithmic needs of an artificial pop star with the performance of the artist himself. The  boundaries between reality and artifice are blurred, and a dialogue between analog evolution and digital experimentation is born. Sounds are sculpted, distorted, and amplified, thus becoming hybrids.

Thought in the continuity of Zona Gargantua, his first solo show at Balice Hertling (Paris, 2023), the exhibition that Erwan Sene is preparing for Kortrijk extends the story. His machine-works, characterized by their disturbing strangeness, respond to the new technological paradigm, which favors organic forms and methods of living things to better make people accept the anxiety they cause - thus drone hives imagined by Amazon or dogs of Boston Dynamics used for arraignment. It is because the currency of the technical utopia is always stamped, on its reverse, with the seal of nightmare. By engaging in incursions into the world of surveillance and control, of "the obsolescence of man" (Günther Anders) and its cultural values, of the tyranny of language and that of a fantasized but already dilapidated future , Erwan Sene is setting up an amusement park that could well be a memorial to the fallen dreams of the Trente Glorieuses.

We had the pleasure last year to host a solo exhibition by Latvian artist Daiga Grantina. At the moment you can see Grantina’s work at several occasions: in the group exhibition ‘The Kick Inside’ where she’s showing the ‘Skycarpet’ in a new iteration. There’s also the solo exhibition ‘Moth Mothers’ in Copenhagen. From tomorrow on you can als go and see the homecoming exhibition ‘Laila telpa’ at Art Museum Riga Bourse.
