Happy 242 Day π§πΈπ§πΈπ§πΈπ§πΈ
Today, it was my distinct pleasure to host a courtesy call with ILO-DWT Director Dr. Joni Musabayana, NTC Chair, Sharon Martin and the members of the ILO DWCP team. During our meeting, we engaged in insightful discussions surrounding a myriad of matters concerning labour in The Bahamas.
The dialogue underscored the challenges and opportunities we face, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing them effectively. By working with the committed support of ILO-DWT, we aim to drive positive change, foster inclusivity, and promote sustainable development in our labour force.
Our conversations during the courtesy call also focused on enhancing cooperation not only within The Bahamas but also across the region. Recognizing the interconnected nature of labour markets, we discussed the significance of sharing best practices, exchanging insights, and leveraging each other's strengths to create a more robust framework for advancing decent work and social justice.
As we move forward with our labour transformation initiatives, the discussions held today serve as a catalyst for continued collaboration and joint endeavours. By working closely with all stakeholders, we are committed to driving meaningful change, advancing labour development and creating a sustainable and equitable labour force in The Bahamas.

Over the past two weeks, I had the pleasure of participating in two days of Empowerment and Strategic Planning as the Ministry of Labour and Public Service leaders gathered at the National Training Agency for our annual symposium. It was an opportunity for me to share the vision for the year ahead, presenting our progress report on the 10-point plan for the Ministry of the Public Service and casting the 10-point plan for the Department of Labour. Both setting the stage for an exciting journey from Conception to Fruition within this year.
Our keynote speaker, Bishop Neil C. Ellis, delivered a powerful message challenging the mindset of our leaders to actively engage in being a part of the reform, progress and ultimate success of our Ministry. His thought-provoking words left a lasting impact on our approach to leadership, inspiring us to pursue greater levels of success and overcome challenges with resilience and determination.
As we departed from these transformative conclaves, we committed to take the spirit of empowerment and vision with us, allowing it to guide our actions and decisions in the days and months ahead. We left inspired by what we gleaned from each other and Bishop Ellis's powerful message.
The journey continues, and I look forward to the achievements that will result from our collective efforts.
I extend a huge thank you to my Permanent Secretary, Ms. Gina Thompson and the Director of Labour, Mr. Howard J. Thompson Jr., for their support and contributions to the success of the 2024 Symposium.

Attendance was excellent and it was great to reflect on the remarkable accomplishments that we, as a community, achieved in 2023.
