Vitiligo Lady

On a beautiful Thursday, we were at the Botswana Life Maun Branch office. BIHL Trust has been in close communication with our team to support our cause.

They decided to donate to us a gigantic gazebo and wall banner so that we can continue spreading Vitiligo Awareness.

I am honestly still speechless for this generous gesture, thank you to the Vitiligo team that managed to make it to the handover. You guys are my rock.

Thank you BIHL Group, BIHL Trust and Botswana Life for the beautiful day we had with you. Vitiligo Lady has officially finished the year on a high note.

I can't wait for 2024 yaaaay!

My brother, one of my strongest support structures and I had a beautiful adventure experience yesterday in the Chobe National Park that entailed viewing wildlife in the comfort of a 4X4 open safari vehicle(game viewer) with African Odyssey-Chobe.

All I can say is that the year has not ended yet but that was the most beautiful thing I've experienced this year.

The landscape is just a masterpiece.

The first sighting was giraffes. Just like me🤣Giraffes are beautiful, they stand out from the crowd and they have this uniquely defined legs and neck of which I believe that is why they can reach for food in high places.

We came across hippos, impala, elephants, Kudu, and our national pride the zebras.

The next sighting was Lions. It wasn't my first time seeing a lion but you should have seen my face hey. Lions are the famous of all wild animals so it was exciting to see them! I really wished I could have heard them roar but I guess that's experience for another time.

It was wonderful seeing all those animals, watching the way they moved and how they just do things in general.

Although I'm sad that I didn't see buffalos I'm happy with the experience ❤

Throw Back Thursday

This morning as I was going through my gallery, I found this beautiful picture of my friend Kray and I.😅😅😅 A bunch of high school memories started flooding back.

When I started my form 4 at Maun Senior I was not any other girl starting school, no! I was a girl living with vitiligo.

I had to explain my condition to different people on a daily basis. Being asked uncomfortable questions "does it hurt?" " a o shele?" "O tshetswe ka di acid?" "A wa goga(smoking)" being called names like "kgomo ya mashi" "juicy lips" 😅😅😅The list is endless yoh! I was a boarding student, o kile wa bona o thapa batho bothe ba turner ba go lebella?

That was the hardest chapter of my life, mind you my mom was working in the bush so I didn't really have anyone to talk to.

This was just too much for me and I decided to leave school. All thanks to Mma Motshegwe, my former guidance and counseling teacher, mma o berekile, I swear! If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have completed my form 5. We spoke in just one day, and I had already made up my mind and ever since that day I knew Mma Motshegwe has got my back, beautiful, right? Whenever I had something stress me I would go back and talk to her, honestly these conversations that we we would have always made me feel better.

I just want to say if you are a parent to someone living with vitiligo please do not pinpoint it as a weakness because the society is already doing that. The best you can do is to accept them, love them unconditionally and become their ultimate support system.

Encourage your child to live life on their own terms without getting dictated by the society’s misconceptions about vitiligo. For a skin condition like vitiligo, a little bit of love and support from family and friends can bring remarkable change in one’s life.

There's nothing as nice as having a support structure or just knowing that someone has got your back. There are those who are still struggling with accepting themselves more especially kids, let us help them thrive for acceptance, it is the best medicine for each and everyone of us.

We would like to appreciate our creative artist for an amazing job as he made all of the Vitiligo Day attendees take part in a painting activity. He painted on a big white cloth and tasked everyone to colour a Vitiligo patch on the skin to raise awareness on vitiligo while engaging everyone with a paint brush.

It was a marvellous team effort.
