Balance your hormones with food and herbs.

Estrogen is a group of hormones that supports an amazing number of processes from our menstrual cycles and fertility, to our bone, brain, and heart health, and also keeps inflammation in check. It keeps us feeling juicy and s*xy, too. But like anything, too much of a good thing can mean imbalance - and at times, frustrating symptoms or even medical conditions.

When estrogen is elevated (erroneously called estrogen dominance), symptoms can include: Cyclic breast tenderness, breast cysts, short menstrual cycles (< 21 days), heavy periods (which then may mean more crampy, painful periods), mood swings, menstrual migraines, and water retention. It can also contribute to endometriosis and uterine fibroids, and, unchecked, is a risk factor for breast and endometrial cancers.⁠

Why does it happen? ⁠
🔶 Estrogen-mimicking hormones in our food and environment⁠
🔶 Poor gut elimination of estrogens/gut microbiome dysbiosis⁠
🔶 Low fiber diet (fiber helps to eliminate estrogens)⁠
🔶 Impaired liver detoxification of hormones⁠
🔶 Estrogen-containing birth control⁠ or hormone replacement therapy

Addressing these underlying causes is essential to restoring hormone balance. In my practice, I also use foods, nutrients, and herbs to help restore healthy estrogen levels.

Here are some of my favorites:⁠
🌿 Flax seeds: 2 TBS daily⁠
🌿 Leafy Greens: For liver support & gut health. 2 to 4 cups daily, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, bok choi, collards, Napa cabbage (all safe even if you have a thyroid problem, just enjoy them cooked)⁠
🌿 Legumes: ½ to 1 cup (cooked), or 2 TBS hummus, at least 4 times/week⁠
🌿 Vitex: 180 mg in capsules or 5 mL tincture daily⁠
🌿 Dandelion root: 5 mL tincture or taken in capsules ⁠
🌿 Turmeric: in foods, in capsules up to 2 gm daily, or as curcumin ⁠

Keep your liver healthy!

My experience has shown that supporting the liver is important for healthy thyroid function and eliminating many Hashimoto's-related symptoms.

I had discovered the benefits of liver support working with clients who had multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS), and could not tolerate even the most benign supplements.

Based on surveys that I received from my past liver program members, some may not have MCS, but may present with one or more of the following patterns:
➡️ Toxic weight gain: Normally our liver/gallbladder can work through toxins, but when we have too many, we compensate by gaining weight, “lowering” our concentrations of the toxins, as now we have more fat to store them.
➡️ Toxic skin issues: The skin is our largest detox organ; issues like eczema, dry skin, breakouts, and rashes can be signs of toxins as the body tries to remove them.
➡️ Toxic fatigue: An overburdened liver cannot properly activate T4 to T3, the active thyroid hormone that gives the body energy - and our mitochondria, the internal sites of energy production, stop making energy as they become poisoned.
➡️ Toxic hormonal issues: An overburdened liver can't process hormones; undesirable hormone intermediates start circulating, causing hormonal imbalance (night sweats are a common symptom).
➡️ Toxic anxiety: The body gets depleted of amino acids and raw materials that help to build our calming neurotransmitters.
➡️ Toxic pain/inflammatory imbalance: The body gets depleted of amino acids that are needed to repair itself. Pain is often the first symptom for many.
