It feels so good to have your own little Garden during the Winter month. Fresh Lettuce all the time and lots of Herbs. Love it !
It is such a joy to watch them enjoy their Fodder and some greens during the Winter. Fodder is really a great fresh food option for our Animals. They sure love it.
Don't watch the Video if you are sensitive to the natural behavior of animals !!
A few weeks ago this male cat showed up at our place and he looked not so good. Very thin and unloved. We offered him some food and he stayed for a few days then disapeared again. After another few days he returned and I went and got his food to give to him. This time he didn't keep his distance and came right up to me rubbing his head on my hand, clearly very happy to be back. Since than he never left my side again follows me where ever I go. I introduced him to our Dog - Pebbles - and it took less then 1 hour and they became friends. Even so I am very allergic to cats we decided to allow him to stay and offer him a home. Now here comes my problem .. I really don't like him to have to stay outside 24/7 especially during Winter. So I went and got my medication to control my Allergies and now he can even come inside. Pebbles and Garfield are very close to each other. No fights no nothing to worry about. The other day, I got to widness something I never have seen in my live. Garfield got a Mouse, which certainly is nothing special, BUT he went straight to Pebbles and dropped it in front of her. To my very surprise she started playing with it. - she never cared for it before - Garfield watched her as if he has to teach her how to handle it. So I didn't intervene and watched them until I couldn't stand it anymore and took the mouse and ended their play. But well... something you not always see happened here.

Todays Harvest, I am so glad to be able to grow some of our Vegetables myself. There is certainly nothing better then fresh from the Garden on your Plate. We do not have a huge Garden and this Years Weather certainly was not beneficial due to the high heat we struggled somewhat but we still have something.
Our newest Family Member! So cute! We don't know anything about him. Only that he is a very vocal lovely boy. He just showed up at our place and decided to stay. We couldn't find his owners, and it looks like he got shaved at one point in the past. Also I believe he had a Collar since the fur around his neck shows the marking. Tomorrow we will visit a Vet to get him checked out and see if he has a chip, if not we will spoil him like we do with all our animals. He also became friends with our Dog Pebbles in no time, not scared of her at all. He seams to be very hungy for attantion and never leaves my side no matter where I go or what I do. Today we allowed him inside the house, and he even sits in front of the Door and meows when he needs to go outside. I think we gonna name him Garfield it somehow just fits ;-)
FINALLY! Our new Rabbit House is almost finished and just a few little things left to do. I am so happy and it looks like the Rabbits too. Lots of Air, and places to rest and to get off the wire. They seem to enjoy it. The best Idea I had was the connecting door between 2 Cages for the Momma and her Babies that allows for extra room when they get bigger and makes weaning them a lot easier later on. One Rabbit Project finished. More to come! There are still plans for Rabbit Tractors, to have them outside during summer but this will have to wait a little longer until then I forage for green stuff every day. Have a look what we have build. :-)

One of many Projects from this year is to move the Rabbits into a new Building and get them some larger Cages made. One is finished just 5 more to go and a few runs. So far I am pretty happy with what I have build. Now that I know what I want, the next ones will be done quicker and won't take so long. Hopefully this will be finished within the next few Days.

Worm Compost Tea - a fertilizer and pesticide that is very beneficial to the all over performance of our plants and the garden soil. The Baby Bunnies are a little over 2 weeks old now. They left the nest and started to eat on their own. I am always amazed on how quick they grow up.
What a great way to store Rhubarb until there is enough time to make some Jam from it, we love Strawberry - Rhubarb - Vanilla Jam but no time to make it right now. So I freeze dried the Rhubarb und Strawberries for later. It will be a great experiment on how that is going to work out. ;-)
Finally we can harvest some of our own Veggies from the Garden. Some Rhubarb, Spinach and Raddishes.
Baby Bunnies are a week old now and looking great. Mom is doing a fantastic job . We lost 3 out of 12 what was to be expected since 2 of them had been very tiny and 1 was stillborn. So I am very happy with the ones that we still have.
Composting is a great way to recycle the organic waste we generate at home, and a must have for any Homestead and Gardener. Turning so called waste into Black Gold which enriches the soil and provides lots of Nutrients for our Plants, helps with retaining moisture in the Soil and so much more. There are so many ways to compost and doing it is so rewarding. We do Vermicompost (using the help of Red Wiggler worms to create Worm Castings) and the "normal" Way of creating a Compost Pile / Bin for all the things that can't go into the Worm Bin. Also it helps to manage the amount of Droppings our Animals produce. In the End the result is wonderful "Black Gold" for our Gardens.
So 2 Days ago I got a new Compost Pile set up with the bedding from our Chicken Coop and Rabbit Droppings beside the usually left over Kitchen Scrab and Green Cuttings from the Yard. I think I got the ration right and it works just fine.
Being in Control over what we eat is fantastic and the same counts for our Animals! Since we now have a Freeze Drier, it didn't take long until we tried to make some treats for Pebbles so she can benefit from it as well. I really like the Idea of processing large batches of Food or Treats at ones and being able to store them for a very long time. Saves time and money for sure.
Have a look, I explain in my Video how I do Raw Treats for Pebbles :-)

Did you know that Calendula officinalis has a lot of beneficial properties? For many years I grow it every summer in my Garden. Calendula flowers can be infused in oils and incorporated into lotions, creams, and balms. Besides its beauty in every Garden it also is historically used for medicinal and culinary purposes. Calendula flower is commonly used for wounds, rashes, infection, inflammation, and many other conditions.
We Got BABIES!

Trying my hands on making leaf mold (mould) I have heard so many good things about it. I had stored some leaves last fall for the use in my Vermicompost during winter, which I used for this now. Next fall, I will collect as many as I can get and store them until next Spring to use for making the mold. I think 🤔 this won't do well during our Winter here in Canada and will just freeze, so starting it in Spring hopefully works out. I guess I have to wait and see what is going to happen. Anyone done this and could share some info?

My Navel Orange Tree has so many flowers. The smell of them is filling the room where I keep it so much that it some days is already to much. But nonetheless I love to see them knowing that I might get to harvest one or two oranges. The hope is up even so the chances are low since it is a very young tree.
