Connor Minielly kicked off the first Maker night of the semester with a session on 3D printing and how to 3D Print!

This presentation by Misty Decker, Program Manager for IBM z Systems Academic Initiative, will describe what blockchain is and give you a preview of some of the business applications currently being investigated. Come learn about the next big thing before it changes the world!

About our speaker:
Misty Decker currently leads the IBM z Systems Academic Initiative, enabling universities around the world teach Enterprise Systems to students IBM clients are looking to hire. The IBM Academic Initiative provides curriculum and access to system resources to universities and then helps aid students in finding positions with our IBM clients. Misty holds a BS in Mathematics from Virginia Tech and MS in Information Systems from Marist College.

In case you haven’t heard, Georgian is hosting Barrie’s largest ever robotics competition on March 25 and 26. The FIRST Robotics competition will pit 35 robots, built and programmed by teams of Ontario high school students, against one another. The teams are busy developing the machines to achieve specific tasks like collecting fuel, installing gears, and climbing structures.

Approximately 100 volunteers are needed from March 24 to 26 to ensure the competition runs smoothly – March 24 is set-up day. If you’re interested, now is the time to sign up to help! Technical knowledge is not a requirement for most positions. The event planning committee is specifically recruiting referees and judges.

Students can volunteer and include this experience on their co-curricular record.
