But it’s natural? 🐕🍂 Why dog p**p and yard waste don’t actually help nature…
Yes, in the end, they do decompose, but creeks, forests, and meadows thrive under balanced systems of growth and decay. When decaying material is added to natural systems, they become unbalanced and eventually dysfunctional.
Help keep our creeks, Conservation Areas, and community healthy by bagging and trashing your dog’s waste and brown bagging or better yet mulching your grass trimmings and leaves for grass or garden fertilizer.

Please don’t dump yard waste or grass clippings into the valleys (or any natural areas)! See the message below from our friends at Central Lake Ontario Conservation:
Please don’t dump your leaves, grass clippings, or brush anywhere but the brown paper bag at the curb. Sure, it might be a little more work, but you are literally saving lives!
🐟Twenty-seven kinds of fish and up to 170 different creek critters find their homes in local yard-waste-free creeks!
🍂Seepage from piles of decomposing yard waste can enter streams causing algae to grow rapidly and then die, depleting the water of oxygen and creating “dead zones”.
🌊Yard waste dumped in creeks can cause local flooding if it builds up in a debris jam.
🌱Yard waste dumped in natural areas and ravines smothers healthy vegetation and can spread invasive species.
Even better than brown-bagging it, consider keeping your grass clippings on your lawn as a free fertilizer! You can also make a difference by taking a second to sweep clippings off sideways and driveways and back onto the lawn when you’re done mowing. This will prevent stray clippings from being washed into storm drains and later into creeks when it rains.
