Dear SCDSB Families,

Due to the solar eclipse set to occur in our region, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) has made the decision to move the elementary school PA Day originally scheduled for April 26, 2024, to April 8, 2024.
The decision to alter the PA Day for elementary schools was based on consultation with a variety of stakeholders, including the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. The SCDSB examined various options to ensure student safety and minimize disruption to student learning.
SCDSB secondary schools will follow the approved 2023-24 school year calendar and will continue with the scheduled PA Day on April 26.

April 8

• SCDSB elementary schools - open and running on regular schedule.

The total solar eclipse provides a unique opportunity for teaching and learning. The SCDSB is developing resources for students and staff that will include a focus on safety.

🚨📢GRAND OPENING CEREMONY 📢🚨

We are looking forward to tomorrow’s (Thursday, October 19th) Grand Opening Ceremony which will take place after our Meet the Educator Event.

The Meet the Educator Event will run from 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Our Grand Opening Ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the gymnasium which will not be open until 6:15 p.m.

We expect a large number of people in attendance for our Grand Opening Ceremony, so we would ask that our families be mindful of the following:

Parking at the school will be limited, if you live close by, please consider walking. We would also ask that families consider parking on a nearby side street or alternate location – there will not be parking spaces for everyone at the school
While we will do our best to ensure there is seating for everyone, with the large number of RSVPs, we anticipate that some people in attendance may need to stand
The event is a formal one (much like a graduation ceremony) which will include speeches by staff and dignitaries (i.e. politicians), student and multi-media presentations
We would ask that families please review expectations of students/children while attending a formal event such as this (i.e. listening when there is speaking/performing and applause when appropriate)

Just a reminder that due to the school being closed to students on Friday, October 20th, due to the PD Day, Kernels Popcorn will be on sale tomorrow (Thurs. Oct. 19th) for $2.00 per bag (cash sale) during the first Nutrition Break.

My child was offered by the school to participate in STEM summer program.
It would take place in a PS in Barrie 9am-12pm during a period of 3 weeks in July. On the one hand I am happy for the opportunity to help improve much needed knowledge as this is something I was planning to do during the summer. On the other hand it's really frustrating for my child to do this during summer break. I wonder if there are families that participated in this kind of program previous years and can share from their experience or are they families that are planning to be there this summer? I'll appreciate any thoughts you guys might have. Thank you!!
