Introducing our 2023 Co-Captains: Wayne Yan Muk and Yu Bin Chae! 🥳

Wayne has been involved with SFU JDC West for the past two years. He started his journey in 2021 where he placed 2nd in Human Resources. He also competed again this past year on the Not-For-Profit team.

Yu Bin has most recently finished his term on the SFU JDC West Executive Team as the Vice President of Events. He also competed on this year's Athletics team as the team Captain. Prior to these roles, Yu Bin was on the Athletics team in 2020 and competed on the Entrepreneurship team in 2021 where he placed 2nd.

We cannot wait to see what these two accomplish this upcoming year 🤩 We are looking forward to them bringing their team to new heights to represent Beedie at JDC West 2023! 🎊

What an incredible journey this past JDC West year has been! To say you have all come so far is an understatement. We have been so honoured to play a small part in your growth, development, and learning over the past few months!

This year can be summed up in three simple words - unpredictable and character-building. Despite all of this, all 46 of you remained nimble and navigated the various pivots with poise and confidence. When we first took on the role as Co-Captains, we did not imagine this year to play out how it did. The twists and turns that appeared out of nowhere would have been detrimental if it were not for the hard work, dedication, and support that you all displayed. All of the successes that we achieved at the 2022 competition would not have happened without each and every one of you showing up day in and day out. As Co-Captains, we are so proud of not just the accomplishments you all had this year, but the courage you all displayed to battle back when so many things changed throughout the year.

Thank you for your patience with us when everything was ambiguous.
Thank you for putting up with our numerous 3 AM Slack messages.
Thank you for your tireless efforts in practicing, researching, and the constant hunger for knowledge.
Thank you for carrying the pride and presence of the Beedie School of Business, and for building an open culture that truly made everyone feel welcome and provided a sense of belonging.

These past seven months brought together some of the most remarkable, brightest, and special individuals at Beedie - we are lucky to have been a part of this ride. Let’s meet our International Business team! What is their ideal vacation? ✈️

Marcus: On a whim, I decide to travel across Asia. My first stop? Seoul. I go to a boujee restaurant and order the best Korean bbq I’ve ever had. The bill comes and the server tells me I owe them 100,000 won. I’m horrified. I’ve never held that much money before. I put it on my credit card and leave. Outside, I’m lured into a strange game with 455 other people and soon realize that I actually only spent $100. If only I listened to Yu Bin when he offered travel advice.

Meaghan: Who’s going? Me and my mom. Where are we going? Japan. We’ll start by making ceramic mugs in Mashiko and take the bullet train to Osaka. From there we’ll go to Universal Studios Japan and then hurry to Disney Sea and Disneyland Tokyo for a few days to watch all the shows and go on all the rides. On the last day there, for some inexplicable reason, I’m given ownership of both parks and all the hotels and am able to become the youngest Disney executive ever! I then take over the rest of Disney; subsequently, the rest of the world 🙂
