I am no longer helping with the covid efforts as a LPN. I am just waiting for my aircast to come off August 25th so that I can help you and your new families!
I haven't been very active lately. Right now I'm helping as a nurse with covid. This is only temporary, and I hope to be right back doing doula work soon. Thank you for understanding.
Breastmilk is made by the morhers blood and not directly from what she eats.
Mothers in famine conditions still produce breastmilk that is optimal to their babies. This is because breastmilk evolves in sync with the babies feeding needs. -la leache league
It's with a heavy heart that I saw this today.
Moffatt Doulas fees have been updated to include night services! At this time only 3 nights a week are available. Get the rest you deserve!
What's the difference between a certified doula and a certifying doula anyway?
So you have decided that you want a postpartum doula. That's great! But you're on a budget. A certified doula is $30 to $40/hour but a certifying doula is a $20 to $30/hour investment. But what's the difference?
A certified doula is someone who has met their training bodies requirements to be a certified doula. While a certifying doula is working on those requirements. HOWEVER both a certifying doula and certified doula have done the same in class training, and readings, and mandatory webinar.
The difference is that a certified doula has more experience. A certified doula has had the mandatory 2 (3 for birth I believe) families that they have helped who have filled out a review on them. A certifying doula is working on getting families to review them.
What it boils down to is this: a certified doula has more experience, not always more training (of course if they have been a certified doula for many years they take extra courses to stay current). But when you hire a certifying doula they may ask you to fill out a review of them to become certified. So if you decide on a doula it's worth considering a certifying doula. If you want a knowledgable doula go to their website and see what training they have taken, what past field they had education in. This is true for certified and certifying doulas. Having a certifying doula doesn't mean you're settling for second best, what's more important is deciding which doula is right for you.
This Friday is the McKenzie Towne la leche league meeting. This is a free zoom meeting that helps anyone with breastfeeding questions or problems. Even if you are pregnant and deciding if you want to breast feed or what's involved you are welcome. Come and check out your local meeting or join the group on friday and take advantage of the zoom meeting situation to see what it's all about!

I am just sharing some cost efficient and emviromently friendly ways of drying your cloth diapers. Hanging your diapers out to dry in the sun like this is the best way of caring for them. The sun also has some cleaning and bleaching affects as well.
Cloth diaper education is a special service Moffatt Doulas offers. My family has always cloth diapered including my own son. It's something I am hoping to share with others who want to explore that route.
Had a wonderful meeting today with the ladies at my local le leche league. I highly recommend going to the website and finding a meeting. Currently they are all on zoom, and meetings are free. Pregnant and newborn mothers benefit, but also nurses, doctors and doulas.
Here is an article in parents magazine about doulas and if you need one: https://www.parents.com/pregnancy/giving-birth/doula/should-you-hire-a-postpartum-doula/

A fantastic testimonial for this week's Doula Spotlight feature, Randi van Wiltenburg!
“My doula was amazing. Randi goes above and beyond in her role as a doula and in life. She’s the perfect addition to any birth team.
She is inclusive, respectful and always makes herself available to answer questions and offer support.
If you’re thinking about hiring a doula - do it!
Randi is worth every penny. I feel very lucky to have had Randi present at the birth of both of my boys as she held space and supported my spouse and I in the most vulnerable and beautiful moments of our lives.
Randi is very gifted at what she does and I cherish her continued friendship.”

Reviewing my baby wrapping skills. If you don't have $60 and up for a wrap it's ok. This lovely knitted moby wrap was $30 ($26 with their point system) at once upon a child. If you want to baby wear, but are short on money after the birth of a baby, once upon a child or even goodwill or wins are excellent places to look for a wrap.
Baby wearing is a lot more convenient than a stroller as strollers sometimes take up a lot of room in stores. Going to banff or waterton with a stroller is a great example of how inconvenient a stroller can be.
